A Tasmanian family owed nearly $10,000 in rates on three properties and refused to pay rates as they stated it is the heavenly fathers land.

The council voted to proceed to sell the home to aquire payment of rates.
It first started it 2010.

“The owners steadfastly reaffirmed their belief that the land was not theirs but that of the Heavenly Father, that Council would be taking the land from him and that was a matter between Council and God,” the council agenda said.

Thoughts: I guess there is the argument that no mam owns land we only lease it until we then pass it on.

In the case of the council surely the point of we charge rates for the job of collecting rubbish is reason enough to make some sort of payment, and a ressonable fee should be paid. But we cant deny it is the Lords or the creators land.

But does that mean we shouldn't pay council rates? I say no to Property rates, yes to rubbish collection rates.
