The trick is that masses of people really need this guidelines, otherwise they can't decide what tf do they want and scared to have freedom of choice - there is even psychological researches on this desidophobia.
Since we're social species, it takes plenty of time to find your own course and not follow the standard patterns given by society or family. ( hello to all this parent's unrealized desires transferred to children).
So humans let others to control them (responsibility makes us uncomfortable, doesn't it?) and then surprised when the ropes are too tight.
We have everything inside us, just need to dig deeper:)

While I agree, I just cannot shake this question (which I don't hold an answer to) what if that fear of choice is not real? Like fear of hell for example?
In that case, all I can do is to joke about it hoping that someone somewhere asks themselves this question, what if I'm spending my life away worried about stuff that is not worth my life?
I could be wrong of course, but it's worth a shot.
