The amateur ski jumping comptetition

in #life6 years ago

Slovenia is very sports country and the most of success we gained in winter sports, like alpine skiing and ski jumping. Because of that are skiing and ski jumping very popular hobbies. When winter reward us with enough snow, that we can build our own (of course) amateur ski jump hill, you can bet we will do it.

  • This is ski hill inrun. The most important thing was to prepare these ski tracks to be as smooth as possible and it must be deep enough to provide that the ski would not go out of these tracks. Takeoff table height is about 1 meter.

For the past few years, we didn't had lucky with the major quantities of snow but this winter, we finally had a lucky break and people around the our country took it with both hands and built hills and made ski jumping competitions.

It takes a lot of hard work to build a ski jump hill like this. You need to lay a lot measure of snow, and need to trample it and make sure that it don't become too soften. And also organizer was looking on details like flags and marking distance with blue and red colors and spruce branches. It takes time to make a inrun ski tracks, because you need to trample the snow first and than carve the inrun into nackered snow.

This weekend, I attended one of skip jumping events near my home. It was a team competition and in every team were 3 ski jumpers. Size of the hill was 20 meters, and the longest jump was 24 meters. The ambient was very nice because the event was running at night and also a little snowfall for magical winter atmosphere.

  • view from the top of the hill.

Last time I was jumping was 7 years ago and had a little bit of fear but after all it's something that I cannot doing everyday. Firstly we have trial round and my trial jump was 17 meters. In first round, one of my colleagues jumped 22 meters and, I made 20 meters. Unfortunately ,the third jumper in our team crashed at 20 meters and the punishment was taking of 4 meters of his length.

  • Me on the takeoff table.

  • On the air.

  • And safety landing.

Everything vent well until in the second round one of the competitors lost his ski in the air and he fall down from a great height and he needed a help immediately. Thankfully the organizer provide first aid and an ambulance on the event, so they take him to the hospital and the second round has been cancelled because of a medical reasons, after all this events are because of having fun and first term is our health. One the after the event the organizer sent a message that with the guy who crashed was everything OK.

  • Lost his ski next second when he pushed off and fell on the ground from about 3 meters height. Happily with the jumper was everything alright.

Because the cancelling of the second round the event organizer decided that the results of the first round be prevail so our team finished at 9th places of 14. teams.

  • Event organizer's place.

  • Hill inrun after the competition.

I hope you like my adventure this weekend. It was really nice, after all these years to make a few jumps. THANK YOU for checking my blog. See ya! (=

Welcome to Steemit! I hope you’ll enjoy being here as much as I do.

Skiing is a great sport and I love it as well as snowboarding. Which one I do depends on the snow conditions and the type of runs I take.

Thank you. Yeah, i also like skiing, i am a little bit clumsy on snowboard (:

Snowboarding is a little tougher to learn but it's great in some soft snow. When it's icy out - there's nothing like a sharp pair of skis!
