Yesterday makes it the second day of resumption of public schools in Ogun State(in case you've forgotten-I'm an educator) and it came with a Surprise. The day started with the usual clearing of grasses and cleaning of classrooms and the school premises. Of couse, that is a regular routine for most if not all the government owned schools in the country.
... to the surprise of the day
At about 11:30 a.m the vice principal(Vp) walked into the staff room to inform the staff of an emergency meeting. In his words: 'Please stop all that you are doing now and go to the principal's office for an emergency meeting.'
Emergency? That word alone was enough to sprout the entire staff to the principal's office almost at once. 'What is the emergency in the meeting when the staff meeting was held just the previous day, barely less than 24hours?' was the playing question on everyone lips are we hurried en masse to the principal's office.
Lo and behold, the above picture was what welcomed our presence; a table decorated with cake and wine on it. ... and again, that setting was out of place. The principal couldn't be celebrating another birthday in four months interval. The staff already gave her a breath taking and head swelling surprise birthday in May. What has the emergency meeting got to do with the cake and wine on the table in the principal's office? The entire were totally confounded. Nothing was linking either.
And like the winner to a grand finale is announced, the principal in her majesty, called out the celebrant: Mrs Oyeshile Olufunke Ogungbade! the wife to Mr Muyiwa Ogungbade. You need to see the celebrant's face that moment; contorted with surprises,shock and emotional smiles. She was surprised not because she didn't know that today was her birthday. She was surprised because she had never metioned it to the principal. She was much more surprised and emotional because that morning her husband still told her that he has a lot of projects at hand. He even told her that there would many more birthdays for her to celebrate in the future even if this wasn't marked.
The entire staff sang the evergreen melodious _birthday song' to her and we took photographs together.

Some lessons I learnt from the surprised birthday celebration:
. there is no ending to the drama called love.
. The love between superior and her subordinate.
. the understanding of the wife(celebrant) when the hubby expressed financial constraint in disguise of projects.
