Declaring war and fighting for innovation - how to make Steemit great again!

in #makesteemitgreat-again6 years ago (edited)

Throughout history, nothing has generated more innovation and creativity in humans like a good conflict (for a noble or not so noble cause). But here on Steemit we prefer the type of mayhem that results in a positive outcome rather than death and destruction, so in the spirit of promoting teamwork and collaboration (and some comments from other steemians) lets all rally for the cause of creating something new and interesting that only steemians can.

Currently on the Discord PAL server there are a number of countries that lay claims different realms within steemitopia, in no particular order: #teamasutralia (okay, this was a personal bias), #teamcanada, #teamnl, #teamfrench, #teamgb, #teambrazil, #teamvenezuela and #teammexico. I think there is also #teamusa and hopefully a #teamtaiwan out there somewhere too and perhaps we need some friendly competition to get our creative juices going.

In the interest of promoting goodwill and collaboration between steemians across different countries, I think it would be a really interesting concept to have each country propose a challenge to another country that involves steemians working together to solve a problem and see which country comes up with the best solution.

If you are a member of a team that is associated with a particular country and want to participate, then you are more than welcomed to put together a team as well. I am not sure where this concept is going but if other people are also interested and want to be involved organizing it then I am sure this will turn into something very creative and rewarding.

For now I want to put some thoughts and ideas together (starting with this post) and see if we can get something going.

Let's all do our part to #makesteemitgreat-again, and work on something that is #onlyonsteemit!

Sort:

this competition will be politicized. people will belittle other Nations and nationalities for the sake of victory. I don't want it here

Do you think so? I would like to think that with all the different competitions and teams that have been established here on steemit that we might be a little bit more civilized towards each other. Perhaps there is a better way to promote creative collaboration in a more innovative way?

you know how the Eurovision song contest? Russia has always voted for Belarus and did not vote for Ukraine and Poland

Hopefully the people on steemit are much more open-minded and are looking towards the future rather than the past. There is only so much I can do but it takes everyone to move on from the past for there to be a brighter future.

You try use energy of all steemians together

First of all, for the love of god, don't make your slogan be, "make steemit great again."

Didn't make sense when Drumpf used it and makes even less sense here, Steemit is great and is still growing.

Secondly, it politicizes what you have tried to otherwise pitch as an admittedly fun idea of countries challenging eachother that could be made into its own thing while also linking it to the buffoon known as Trump.

Bit polarizing.

Trump isn't even liked by the majority of American's, and even less so outside the country. I agree with @yura81, the way you've pitched this idea will not go over well nor am I a fan.

Also, saying:

"the format might be a bit like the Iron Chef or Ninja Warrior international competitions"

while pitching it as a

"time for some good old fashioned military conflict to help spark some interest and innovation on steemit."

is also a poor choice of words insinuating you'd like countries to actually Fight as opposed to challenging eachother.

Thank you for taking the time to provide the feedback, I have taken the comments onboard and have made changes to tone down the 'satire' a bit more in case others take offence as well.

The reason for using the tag is part of my goal to take things that are perceived as bad and turn it into something positive. My conversation with other steemians (both new and old) is that we need to make drastic changes and not simply continue with the way things are. I am not saying that steemit is not great, but the aspirations are not measuring up to what has been set out at the beginning (if the number of bots and flagging wars are any indication).

Perhaps if you read the article I have written about identity on steemit you will understand that I have only the best intentions for the platform, but some of the practices and ideas can and should be challenged if only because the platform has evolved as well.
