Management

Management - the brain of a company that leads, directs, and for lack of better words manages the operations of a company. First let me say that I am not perfect and a lot of people may disagree with what I am saying but for those interested here are my thoughts.

I am no management guru but in my times working under management and and being the management of my own company a couple of things have stuck around with me.

  • if the management is not “tight” or together than the slack or weakness trickles down to those under it
  • the phrase lead by example so oh so real
    • if you as a leader or management does not care, guess what …your team won’t care either
  • the more communication that you have with your team the less time you spend having to try and correct or argue with someone about what they are doing wrong
  • if you don’t have the time or take the time to get in the trenches with your team than sit your ass down somewhere, you will never effectively be able to find the flaws or weaknesses in the management.
    • what if as a small business owner you have done all those things starting up and have elevated up the ranks so now you don’t have to worry about doing the work ? I’m pretty sure the times have changed..humble your self and understand your team. A company is successful because of it’s products but because of the team and workers that make that product.
  • There is a difference between a start up and an SME - no where in the books does it say that you can step away from putting in that ground work. Stop bitching and put in the work. Just because you have leveled up doesn’t mean you can step away
  • There is no switching the friend and boss switch on and off. Set a clear parameter from the beginning and stick with it. Don’t start as friends and then switch to some nazi dictator .. shit doesn’t fly. Thats a sure way to have a revolt on your hands
  • ASSUMPTIONS - this one is kind of contradictory BUT who cares. We have all heard the phrase Assumptions make an ass out of you and me.. however at no point should your employees have to assume when major decisions have been made in the company. Thats what company memos, team meetings, or something to kill the big fat assumption monster. And at no point can you or should you be mad if because of your lack of communication leads to assumptions…Just keep it real!!
