The wrong mentality...

I remember my very early days on the platform as it was yesterday...that thirst...to produce the finest thing my mind could create...I kept producing. Two, sometimes even three times a day.

I used to write philosophical stuff. You know, that long boring texts where you open your mind and your soul and stand there naked...I even got featured a few times by msp team.

I do have that very same thirst today, almost 17 months later. The only thing that has changed is that I have way less free time to blog about stuff that I like. Nowadays I hardly have the time to write a single post. You see, there have been way too many changes in my life in those 17 months.

Which kinda reminded me a discussion I had in discord earlier ( I am not that active over there either :( )

I found a dm from a guy I didn't know. He was asking for an advice regarding his latest post and his overall blog. After I checked his post -which was pretty good tbh- and also had a look at his blog in general, I sent to him my reply. He was actually online and replied immediately.

Long story short, we had a pretty nice conversation, until the moment he told me that he is thinking of new ways to attract interest to his blog, therefore he'll start blogging about what this whale or that whale might be interested into, since his payouts where nowhere near to where he was hopping it would be.

That kinda freaked me out, actually...

-This is probably the worst mistake you can make my friend. That's the only piece of advice I can give you...

That was pretty much the end of our discussion.

He was a newcomer. Not more than one month around. But this is absolutely the wrong mentality. I mean it. Writing isn't for everyone. And not everyone is having the same skills. But this is outrageous...seriously. There are so many things you can blog about. You can blog about music, or life or poetry or sports or a thousand other stuff...but blogging about what I or someone with a fat wallet might like so that they will upvote your posts is completely wrong....and absurd.

Just make sure that you enjoy your time around and all the rest will be a natural outcome. If you are not ready yet, just give it some more time...

Time...

And as time goes by, you finally realize that time...is the most precious thing in life.

So make sure you spend it wisely...

Sort:

Just do it for yourself and engage with others. I think we all made the mistake of whale watching when we joined but everybody still here now has learned better. Just be active and enjoy it.

I told him mate...but he seemed to have the "I want attention and I want it now" attitude...shame actually.

Well if he plans on staying then he will have to learn the hard way. Months of trying to catch their attention while letting real opportunities pass by.
