Project teak and ground was HIGH ALTITUDE EXOATMOSPHERIC WEAPON TEST perform during opernation hardtak I.
Teak and orange were two massive,3.8 megaton nuclear devices and they were planned to detonated at an altitude of 2,50,000 feets approximatly six miles south of jhonstan island.
Teak were exploded at 50 miles and orange were exploded at 28 miles in upper atmosphere .The purpose of these test was to get accurate measuring stick against soviet union(they did the same thing).
EFFECTS:When they exploded at 78.6 km directly above johnston island ,the flash effectively turn night into day for 30 seconds.The thermal radiations produced by the blasts can brust the retinas of any living being across 225 km.
The blast cuts high frequency radio communications with new zealand for 6 hours.The red glow remain clearly visible for half an hour in southern sky.
One of the testing engineer stasted chilingly that"we almost blew hole in ozone layer".
