Is it better to have brothers and sisters than to be an only child?

There is no doubt that being the only child will put you in a certain position where you will receive a better education because of the single child expenses, you will receive a lot of love and attention because you are the only descendant and all the focus will be on you. A single child can demand whatever he/she desires like expensive toys and family trips and parents most likely will not reject the wish of their only child and they don’t have to worry about the sibling fights on that certain granted wish.

Is all that love, attention, toys, focus and all that stuff enough to keep a single child happy?

There may be a lot of benefits and advantages of being a single child but there are many disadvantages and mental health problems simultaneously.

Disadvantages of being an only child

The most apparent disadvantage of being a child is the loneliness-not having your siblings around whom you can fight, chat, love, adore, care and play with will put in a mental trauma most of the times, siblings are like a supporting pillar whom you can rely upon and share your feelings.

Brothers and sisters are like friends, we don’t have to make friends outside of our home necessarily if we have like-minded siblings whom we can do all that stuff. If you are a single child, then you must carry an immense pressure on your shoulders to take care of your parents when they are old and provide food on the table in the harsh times. There are many people who are a single child themselves and don’t feel the same way, but they can’t deny the fact that it is not a joyful feeling if you are stressed and don’t have any blood relative apart from parents in your home to share your feelings and ask for help or support.

So, the answer to the question “Is it better to have brothers and sisters than to be an only child” is yes, I belong to a joint family and I have 6 other siblings and I am extremely and blessed to have them.
