The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) and The VET

Soldier, Sailors, Airmen and Marines have long been forgotten by most.
Unless you have specifically been impacted by the loss of someone or
the multination of their body and mind you most likely only think of us
on Memorial Day and Veterans Day. There is an organization in place
within the United States that is supposed to take care of us and that
organization is the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Like most under the care of the VA I have experienced horrific and
abysmal care. There are times that I would rather revive care under
a state program like MOHealth. While the welfare system in America
has its drawbacks with the quality of care provided it is sadly superior
to the VA. If you believe that is untrue look at how the dead are cared
for by the different organizations. Within the state health run system,
the dead are processed and either given to a mortuary for preparation
or sent to cremation after a certain amount of time. With in the VA
bodies of deceits warriors are often forgotten about left to rot, the
VA hospital in Illinois that left veterans’ bodies “to decompose in the
morgue for months on end,” as Senator Mark Kirk (R., Ill.) told Fox News.
This is just one of the many different circumstances of the deplorable
treatment of veterans.

Think as if this was your mother or father yet think as if this was yourself.
Someone who had sacrificed his/her time, body, mind and soul. Could
you stand to be treated as throw away trash. Left to rot in a moorage?
As a community how can we make sure that this stop’s happening?
Should we proposition the lawmakers to make veteran hospitals privatized?
Should we ask that vets be treated under the same medical system that
active duty service member are under (TRICARE)? I believe that the answer
is a little bit of both.

While in the Navy I never once went to a medical treatment facility and was
cast away. I never once did not receive the care that was needed. Now that
I am out of the service and a disabled veteran I must work very hard to get
the medication and attention that is needed. I often find that it is better to
use my work insurance and pay the outrageous copay's so that I may see a
doctor in a timely matter.

As Proof here I am reenlisting for the on board the USS PELELIU (LHA5).

Vets should be treated better! Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I can see that most people would not know unless they have a loved one going through this.

The VA is absolutely disgusting. I've only went twice since I left the Army six years ago, and while my treatment was almost adequate, I did witness the lack of appropriate care for older veterans at the same facility.

I haven't heard about the mistreatment of human remains at the VA in Illinois, but that is especially painful to hear about as a former autopsy technician, and I believe that the blame for that is partly to share with the state's medical examiners' system.

I completely agree that VA is disgusting. I just spent 90 min on hold trying to get an appointment. The system is a wreck and needs to be overhauled.

I moved here to wichita KS Dole medical Center. the best thing I ever did. Better care here then where I was in NC. I always use the secure messaging sys on my health.com and make sure that the information is correct. they cant dispute the E-mails. when it comes to the care I make sure that I am in charge and 1st thing out of my mouth is get a supervisor. I make sure I pick my battles with proper records to back me up. Im an old soldier who never forgot how to be a SOB. but like I said its not bad here but my 1st year was a battle. Had 2 doctors removed and 1 nurse. Its hard but you have to no the ins and outs. thats the damn shame of it. The last 4 yrs been good no complaints. I get so pissed when I her shit like spent 90 min on phone. before you leave the apt you just got make sure you have another apt lined up. dont take no for an answer. easier said then done. good luck and id help in anyway I can.

I can't understand how vets can be treated in this way. In Canada, I know its better service. Your US military service men and women deserve better. You all dedicate your lives to serving your country. The very least in return is decent and affordable health care.

First of all, THANK YOU for your service to our country. Our veterans NEVER hear that enough. You sacrifice for our freedom and give of yourself daily. THANK YOU! It is a crying shame that we don't esteem our service men and women with dignity and respect. You honor our country, yet they spit in your face. Doesn't make sense. I am sorry.
