Separating Your Work Space and Your Bedroom Matters if You Want to Get Quality Sleep!

in #mindset5 years ago

Hi again, dear Steemians!

Quality sleep is an important factor of how well you perform in your job.

In the current landscape of the human society, people do not get enough sleep, and what’s more distressing is that the little sleep they get is mixed with anxiety and distress.

The average person sleeps 6 to 7 hours every day, that is if they get enough time for themselves. Imagine a person who has to work 14-hour days.

That person does not have enough time to dedicate to himself, thus he takes time from his much-needed sleep.
But it doesn’t matter how much you sleep, so long as you make sure it is quality sleep!

image2.jpg
img src

When you are swamped from working hours on end, sleep is a sanctuary you can retreat to and slowly revive yourself to continue working. But scientists claim that to get quality sleep, you need to take care of certain factors.

One of which is your bedroom. Your work space should not be your bedroom, because your bedroom is a shelter that you go back to when you are tired.

Psychologists have confirmed that when you enter your bedroom, your mind hits relaxation mode and thinks that it is time to rest.

This can adversely affect your productivity, as you can easily get drowsy and sleepy if you work in your own bedroom.

image4.jpg
img src

When we are working during the day, a chemical called Adenosine builds up in our body and when you find a physical comfort zone, that chemical compels you to go into rest mode and try to relax, waving off the weariness you have gathered throughout the day.

Being in this mode can cause you to lose focus. That is why when you try to study in your bed or perform a task on your laptop while lying down, you begin to feel tired and suddenly feel the urge to just leave everything and take a nap.

image3.jpg
img src

One of the other problematic things about working in your bedroom is that there are too many distractions that you will have to constantly deal with.

As your bedroom is a natural comfort zone of the mind, it is easy to be distracted by urges that you may not get in an office.

You may feel like watching TV or listening to music, but these are all distractions that come with working and performing your tasks in the bedroom.

If you want to experience more productivity in your work, try to change your routine and leave your bedroom. It is even better to perform your task in the living room if you have no other place to go, because being in the bedroom is the greatest challenge to one’s mindfulness and productivity.

image1.jpg
img src

When your mind starts to mix up the time to work and the time to rest, your body will refuse to give you the quality sleep that you deserve.

By working in your bedroom, you will reduce the quality of your sleep. In this sense, it doesn’t matter if you get 4 hours of sleep or 10 hours of sleep, because when our shut-eye time is not quality, we will not be revived from the weariness of the day.

Separate your work space and your bedroom to boost your productivity today!

A BIG HUG!

This doesn't apply to me. Only rich people have bedrooms! I haven't had a bedroom in over 10 years. Before then I only had a bedroom once or twice in my life. Bedrooms are for spoiled rich people just like panic rooms

Posted using Partiko Android

I only live in one room too. But when I'm working I'm on one side of the room and when I'm sleeping I'm on the other side of the room and keeping things as dark and quiet as possible. I don't know about being spoiled, but I would be glad to have a second room to sleep in. But right now, I am so tired by the time I go to bed, that I do not notice my surroundings anyway.

A sound sleep is required for everyone to get relaxed and bedroom is the place for that. I completely agree with you that working in bedroom is not productive. Though I don't have TV in my bedroom as it disturb me in my sleep.

I have TV only in living room and have separate room for work and study. In my working room only limited things are there so that i don't get distracted.

Nice post @chbartist

You are absolutely right quality sleep really Matter. In this bussy life we have look after ourselves for that it is necessary to get a quality sleep. But we have to separate our working time and rest time so we can set combination with these two things. If we work full day or our office time so we have to work at that place whare is no distractions because if we work in bedroom which is a comfort zone then we cannot be productive. So it is necessary to do right things in right place. Same as if we want to sleep then we have to use our bedroom.

Very true, each thing in its place and a place for each thing ... as indicated by @ronel ... greetings!

In a study, participants felt sleepier during the day after taking a nap, and a study showed that taking a nap for half an hour or less Promotes brain function during the day, while long nap negatively affects health and restful sleep. Some studies have shown that people who take regular nap during the day do not suffer from sleep disturbances at night

I have a home office but I tend to move over to the bedroom to spend time with the family but mostly for my extracurricular work like Steem and other ventures. I try to limit my job to my office and home office as I agree it can become overwhelming to bring into the bedroom.

I think bedroom is particular space relaxation and sleep actually I want quality of stressful sleep and work free zone bedroom.

Every one wants after the whole day works a good quality relaxing and sufficient sleeping time and space.
Barroom a perfect place relaxing stress.
Turn out all activities before the sleeping.
Try to avoid work on bedroom for a relaxing stress for quality sleep.

Very nice post sir good advice for quality life.

Excellent post. I have always worked from my bedroom and I think it has impacted my sleep in a negative way.

Currently working on an office room like this article suggests. So we'll see what happens!

This is great. A sleeping place is a quit place compare to a busy place. Surely, it needs to be seprated. People at times usually mixed this up

Dear @chbartist

This is the problem I struggle currently as Im staying in guest house. Over 2 months in one small studio, where I work and sleep in same room.

I hate it so much and I strongly believe that you're indeed right. I don't feel well rested and surely productivity is droping down as it's hard to avoid feeling tired and lazy.

Another amazing piece of work! Seriously great read.

Yours
Piotr

Use bed only to sleep, not to over-time in bed to avoid your intermittent sleep. Read the admonition of sleeping every night. Keep as much sleep and wake up as possible every day. Exercise such as walking before sleep for 3 or 4 hours and not just before sleep, because the sport works to raise the temperature of the body, making it difficult to sleep, where the human body to reduce the temperature of the sleep comfortable and intermittent. To feel drowsy, do not mind taking a hot bath before sleeping for several hours, and using aromatherapy to calm nerves such as lavender oil. Focus on doing something as quiet as reading the Koran or favorite book or even watching TV, to calm the soul and feeling sleepy and stay away from the work required for great mental effort or intellectual. Create a bedroom atmosphere to help you relax, such as choosing the color of the wall paint in brown, blue or green colors. These colors help to relax and relax. Also, attention must be paid to the amount of light in the room to be dim and not very bright. And work to adjust the temperature, and move away from noise to sleep heavy and continuous. Refrain from smoking, alcohol and beverages that contain caffeine, all of which works to cut off sleep and extreme insomnia. Do not damage a snack before bedtime, and rest your mind from thoughts and concerns. Focus on drinking green tea because of its benefits to the body, and diversification of nutrients within meals throughout the day. When increasing sleep strikes, it is advisable to visit a specialist doctor and to use medicines that help you sleep in consultation with your doctor.

Dear @chbartist
In the present scenario, the person is acting like a machine. If he does not have the night, then he has been working 24 hours. I agree with your point that we should not do our work area in our comfort zone, because we have to feel mentally the boundary that we have built for our comfort. We can divide fatigue into two forms: a mental fatigue and the other physical fatigue. In the case of physical exhaustion, we may sleep at any place, whereas in mental fatigue, we have to overcome the mental barrier which we call our bedroom. In fact, if we do not fulfill our sleep in adequate form then in the morning we start feeling pain in the head.
Thank you

I do not have any work in my room, however I can not sleep well because my little girl has trouble sleeping and wakes up 2 or 3 times or more during the night and I can not sleep pleasantly, I hope that the sleep of she improve, for me to be able to sleep as she should ... I really dream of that day, hahaha that I can go to bed and get up at dawn without having to wake up several times during the night.

That is damn creative and thoughtful subject to ponder upon @chbartist . Definitely we should separate working space with bedroom or relaxing area, Ironically I am right now on my bed writing this, hope to learn more lessons.

Getting a comfortable sleep depends on organizing hours of sleep, waking up and adhering to it every day, even in travel conditions, and when you make some changes to your daily routine, such as learning a new language or eating new foods and the like. Remains constant and does not change, and should be taken into account to be careful to adjust the time of sleep according to the area to travel, by providing or delay timing difference

This is really from personal experience. Not only did I get better sleep after separating the work space from the bedroom, the work quality improved instantly as well!

There's a time for everything.
A time to work, a time to sleep.

There's a place for everything.
A place to work, a place to sleep.

They say, "variety is the spice of life".
Yes, a variety done one thing at a time.
Multi-tasking is common now a days, but its productivity is questionable.
Because of too many things to do at the same time, we sometimes end up exhausted with less production.

Fantastic article, a giant job, @chbartist... shows the care you place in each of your publications and a deep respect for your readers and followers. Actually an example to follow, for all of us who take our first steps in the wonderful world of steemit.

In relation to the above, I think it is really important to consider our resting space as something sacred... (and I'm not just referring to the physical, I'm appealing to our different planes of expression)

In a personal way, it happens to me as you explain it, once I enter my room and I intend to do any work that I have delayed, it is practically impossible for me, the dream defeats me.

It also happens that it is difficult for me to find a place in the house where I can work at ease. Not so when I work away from home.

Because of this, the idea of participating in a cowork space is of great help to those of us who function best in a neutral work space....

Greetings, we read each other!

We all need to sleep so that the brain will be relaxed after usage during the day. With this, it will even prepare itself for use in the following day which in turn makes it easier to understand concepts as quickly as possible.... Great post as per usual @chbartist 👏👏👏👍

"All work without play makes Jack a dull boy".... That's a common saying. Also "there is time for everything" this implies a time to work ,time to sleep . However, I won't encourage working in the bedroom there will definitely be distraction but If you want to rest....then get the best bed and rest your head in your bedroom. Now don't forget this "quality sleep is directly proportional to good active work"

Want to have good time working hours without feeling sluggish, then get good sleep it is the remendy. As a matter of fact, quality work is as important as quality sleep....best regard @chbartist

@chbartist, Definitely hold the needed ingredients and in my opinion it's important because workspace should bring the Productivity and our Bedroom should be for quality resting time. And in my opinion duration is not that much matter but the quality of sleep and resting time is more important. Stay blessed.

when we sleep, it's just our consciousness that is paused but our unconsciousness takes over, so that's why when we sleep in a room with a work desk we tell our unconsciousness that we are still working and this will disturb our relaxation.

great article @chbartist rest is necessary and it is important that we separate that space from work, even when we are in our home and what I do is an exercise that has served me before entering my home, mentally I tell myself that the problems of work are from work and I should not bring them to the hoga.

I do this with the purpose of not involving those who live with me.

Good physiological tips for quality sleep but what to do, if we are living in a hut.

I do agree....
I always tell myself to do my unfinish work on bed... But I end up sleepy and tired...

Un sueño reparador y de calidad, lo lgramos en la medida que a la hora de dormir nuestra mente està reposada, sin pensamiento tormentoso y preocupante. Sòlo asì podremos lograr un suerño de calidad aunque duerma cinco o seis hora.!

Nice post.
I learned years back that bed is only for two things... sleep and sex.

Nice post. I learned years

I'm a bot. I detect haiku.

It is the middle of the day where i am from and i am doing my work half sleep.

God said........ And of his signs is that you sleep at night and day, and seek His bounty. Surely, there are signs in this for those who hear. (23)

@Chbartist we must get enough sleep to be productive, otherwise we get burn out.

I think it's important not only separate your work space and bedroom but and make comfortable area in your bedroom, protect it from parasite noise and light from the outside. It will also help you to rest better and be more productive!

Hi
I like this post.
I think a person needs undisturbed sleep, which makes compartmentalizations of ones living spaces important. I think having a TV and computer in the bedroom interfere with restful sleep. I think your right, that distractions make it hard to sleep quickly and maximize our rest.
I think sleep deprivation is a common source of emotional distress and labileness of mood, not to mention a reducer of productivity. I clearly see reductions in my productivity when I am tired, loss of focus and loss of efficiency.
I think the message is clear that a restful nights sleep is essential to our well being and success in both personal and business areas of our life.
