The Steemit Perception

The steemit perception

In the beginning, I perceived Steemit as a place where I can just come, make a few bucks and move on with my life. I badly wanted the upvotes of the whales and the dolphins as I believed that these would be of an immense significance and therefore, put some bucks in my pocket. I upvoted every steem whale and dolphin I could find and neglected my fellow minnows. I was just so focused on getting higher up the ladder and I totally forgot about other minnows. Even the newbies were not of any concern to me, I was just being a selfish, annoying individual.
Now, when one looks at it, all these whales, and dolphins were once minnows just as I am at this moment, they were just little organisms trying to make themselves heard. So many of them joined at a time when the value of Steem was highly insignificant. But they kept creating amazing posts and having each other’s back. They had no one higher up the ladder to pull them up, thereby being more like the first organisms that evolved on earth and were merely trying to survive a hostile economical environment. Each individual poured out their passion into their work and collectively built Steemit into what we can all see today. They were the only ones who were available to help each other out and it must definitely have seemed like they were wasting their time to other individuals who were not on Steemit at the time. They had no one to give them helping hands but still they strove to get to the pinnacle of the food chain and now, most of us look up to them to give a helping hand.

However, when one looks at their success, one begins to wonder, are you really striving as they strove? When was the last time you upvoted a fellow minnow? When was the last time you resteemed another minnow’s work or even commented on his works? When was the last time you gave him a word of encouragement? When was the last time you welcomed a new minnow into the fold and gave him a word of encouragement? I think your sincere answer to most of the above questions would be “Never”.

However, we keep upvoting and resteeming the works of whales and dolphins with over a thousand followers, each of whom is most likely doing the same thing that we are doing, trying to catch the attention of the big guys. The question now is how are you progressing with that plan of yours? Alright, so there are nice guys such as @papapepper, @stellabelle, @aggroed, etc. Nice guys who are willing to help minnows like us up the ladder, but the question is can one person help a thousand people who are all vying for his attention? I doubt he can even take note of a hundred people, and even if he does, he might not be able to adequately help fifty minnows. After all, he still has his community of guys with whom he started out to take note of. He still wants to resteem and upvote their respective works and not put a strain on his voting power, therefore he barely has time for you, the “Little Minnow”, unless you do something worthy of note.

Fellow minnows, let us help one another up, without having to wait for help from the whales and dolphins. I am not trying to say that they are not consequential but just remember that they were minnows at a time when there were no whales or dolphins to pull them up and they did just fine.

Go into the “introduce yourself section and adopt “little brother minnows, build a base of new minnows who are allegiant to you and look up to you as a big brother.

Most of them might just be coming with the same mindset that you currently possess and just be trying to garner the support of the “big guys” and will most likely be having the same problems that you are having at this point, which is getting the big guys to notice them. However, since half a piece of bread is better than none, they will be willing to stick with someone who is higher up the chain than they are with the hope that they will be able to cajole you into introducing them to a few of the big guys and in the process, you are gradually getting your fan base who will be resteeming your works and giving you upvotes.
Stop waiting for help from the big guys, make yourself heard and help yourself and other minnows become like the big guys with help from your fellow minnows.

Steem on and remember that “Steem is Life”. May your blog ever expand!!!
