Brought down by nature

in #monomad7 years ago (edited)

These were some more dramatic destruction of trees that I have witnessed!

However, for once, these were not the work of Man but by Mother Nature herself - my guess... struck by lightning!

That was a first for me!
I had never seen such before...

Shot at the Grampians National Park, Vic. Australia, near the MacKenzie Falls.

They must have some fierce storms there...
These two trees seemed to be torn apart by a lightning strike!
See how the entire trunk had been torn through and through...?!!
These look even more dramatic as these tree trunks had totally black bark and the sight of it brought down like that, was a stark jolt of reality!
Stark and stunning
I wouldn't have liked to be there during that storm...

This was found a little further off...
No idea what happened to the rest of the tree
Only this was left standing

Must have been a powerful wind! It looks really interesting in black and white!

Looking at the few downed trees they have there, the winds must be strong! But makes for great shots! :) I posted them in colour before, a long time ago... but I think these in black and white make a better impact...
Thank you, Melinda! :)

WOW this really shows the power of nature and are such awesome shots

Have a great day

Thank you, JJ! I was pretty impressed too when I first came across them...
Wish you a great Friday too!!

Most welcome thanks and cheers

Wow that’s some pretty impressive work by nature! Lightning can be crazy. Made for a great picture though. I like the way the broken wood reflects the light in the bark remains black. Good eye.!

Awww, thank you! I was impressed too! :)
Love the black bark... very stark and dramatic!

You don't get out into the woods much do you @achoo?
In South Georgia USA, we have some violent T-storms,
So I have seen such as this all my life, lightning and
All, striking trees, leaving them standing and black
down one side, or all the bark blasted off in a
Streak from top to bottom (which looks
REALLY weird).... Nature is a very
Interesting, wonderful, and
Dangerous Mistress.

Ohhhh those sound very dramatic and must make great subjects for photos - how come I don't see these pics?? :) No, I don't go into the "woods" much - hey, I'm a city girl! Lol... Besides, we don't have woods, we have jungles!!! :D Totally different - you'll need a machete to walk through them... haha! Not much fun at all! Nature is a very interesting, wonderful, and dangerous mistress - totally agree!!

Thank you, Jerry!! You have a good weekend! :)

Those "woods" are 300 mi south of here where I grew up, and
For the most part, have been cut down for housing, hence
The problem with watershed and flooding. Cut for pulp
Wood as well. It is really sad. I could get my nephew
Who still lives right on the bank of the river and
Hunts deer, to send me some photos of the
Woods, but back when I was young and
Walked them, I didn't have a camera.
I'll try to tag you when and if that
Happens @ackhoo. Thanks PS
Here is one I took of our
River property, before
The fire burned
The House.

Lightning strikes like this happen quite frequently over here in South Africa @ackhoo it can split the tree in half, one side lives the other dies off.

Something we were taught from young is never stand under a tree during a lightning storm!

Very effective photography in monochrome.

We have a very high rate of lightning strikes here too, unfortunately hitting people sheltering/being in all the wrong places! Not that often, trees though - maybe because the vegetation here is too lush, and close together. Oh yes, no standing under tree is well-known but many still do - not sure what they're thinking!!!
