Kids are always curious.

The world is new to them and everything is an adventure. Hands grabbing, noses smelling, mouths tasting, eyes wide with interest.

I shot this one morning on my way out of a State Park where I camped the night before. I had taken a left and was driving at a leisurely pace towards the highway. On my way from Minneapolis to Los Angeles to start a new life, I was in no hurry and looking to experience.

This herd was chilling by the fence line as horses are wont to do in the morning.

Chewing, standing, browsing the green selection in front of them. My approach was noted and ears swiveled like laser pointers. A couple snorts from the adults and back to what they were doing.

But the foals and fillies had other ideas in mind. Which frustrated their elders to no end. Was I safe, was I dangerous? They didn't know. But, in youth, does that matter? No matter how many times they put their bodies between me and the young, it didn't stop the curiosity.

It's definitely hard to keep, curiosity I mean, as we get older.

Life, experience, knowledge, seem to become a hinderance to actually seeing the world. The responsibilities of day-to-day become the adults that keep us from nosing into new things. Between us and the world. We get scared of the what-may-be's and focus on things that we think we can control. Those rules we make for ourselves to protect our 'safe' little world become a prison to us.

Maybe I'm just getting old, I don't know, hehe. But, this picture really reminds me of that. The constant battle between safe and new. Once you realize that you're in a prison of your own making you begin to wonder if you can get yourself out of it...things to ponder :)

I hope you enjoyed these images and the story behind them.

What a beautiful photo. Kids are always curious and even in other animals not just humans. Pretty interesting.

Exactly! :) That's what makes the young so amazing, their curiosity, no matter the species :)

great shot mike
