Success in any sphere of life starts with proper planning. I was talking to a friend some days back and he was expressing to me how he wishes to add some extra hours to his day so he could meet up his daily routines. We all have 24hours every day which I believe should suffice if properly planned.

There are countless benefits of planning your day which we are going to be exploring in this article before proceeding to consider the necessary steps in planning a productive day. There are also disadvantages of going about a day unplanned, as a matter of fact, it has a great impact on a person's mental health, general well being and level of productivity. I have experienced both ends and I can experientially say that planning will always be a preferred choice.

Planning is essential to effective time management and living a balanced life. If you constantly feel like you’re not having enough time, that’s an indication that you are not a good planner and you’re not properly managing your time. Productive people are habitual planners, planning plays a major role in achieving success and productivity.

When you set out to achieve a particular goal or milestone in life, it almost seems impossible or cumbersome when you first all look at it holistically until you begin to apply the concept of planning. Planning will enable you to break it down into smaller bits and segments and this also automatically relieves you of pressure. Every goal is time-bound, so timing is an indispensable factor in the whole process. This makes annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily plans so important. We are going to be focusing on daily plans because it is generally believed that our lives are a sum total of our daily habits. The importance of daily plans cannot be overruled in the subject of productivity and success in general. When you get your daily plans right, you already have a good foundation.

Let’s consider few benefits of planning your day;

  1. Experts advise that you plan your day from the night of the previous day. This prepares you psychologically for the next day. This can boost productivity and open up your mind to ideas that could make your work easier. You start the new day prepared and with less emotional tension because you already have your daily plan mapped out. This sets the scene for higher productive tendencies compared to someone who just goes ahead into a day unplanned.

  2. When you plan your day, you are able to effectively manage time and handle unforeseen situations when they arise. Because you already have a structured mode of operation, you are more emotionally and psychologically balanced and this impacts your mental health and ability to resolve issues of emergencies from a mentally healthy perspective. Your creative and innovative ability is enhanced because you manage a structured life and good work ethics.

  3. Planning, structure, and organization generally foster your overall wellbeing. It will enable you to have more personal time. You will get things done quickly and will be able to fix them in some self-care and relationship moments. You will be able to nurture healthier relationships both in and out of the work environment.

Daily planning is undoubtedly a very good and healthy habit. The time you spend planning is always worth it and it will save you a lot of time and energy in the long run. The fact that it also boosts personal productivity is enough reason to embrace it. It is an essential habit of highly productive people.
