"If you want to change the world, start by making your bed." by
Admiral William McRaven, University of Texas-Austin 2014 Commencement Speech
Ohh Danm i love his quote .
Yesterday I watched This Guy's video on Youtube and fortunately I found it very much in line with my recent quest to optimize my workflow and processes. It is an interesting concept, and something that appeals to most of us here . Do you know what this guy said??
This GUY said that :
"If you make your bed every morning, you'll have accomplished the first task of the day" thus making it more likely you will continue the other tasks you have yet to accomplish.
BUT
Some people think that to-do lists are a waste of time, that they become guilt-inducing drugs that hinder you from actually being productive. Some say you should be able to remember everything you have to do. I tend to disagree because if you have the right attitude, forsure a to-do list can be a great “backup” for the tasks in your brain. The age old to-do list is not a new tool and you will often find them seeping into your personal life as well as your professional one. However, with recent technology improvements it can feel like to-do lists are too “old hat” and you’re discouraged from using them.
But honestly this could be hurting your productivity, time management and problem solving skills, among other things. The longevity of the to-do list is because it works.
Ask me why i love them?
I love To make them almost every day. Because I can definitely say that on the days when I am being most productive, I am following a To Do list. There are many benefits of To Do lists, from helping you prioritize your time to helping you remember what it is you meant to do! For me, to do lists are absolutely invaluable. It’s a very simple strategy that works great!
The secret power of a to do list
It creates order
I mean it gives you a way to organize how to do the things you want to do. Projects and plans get broken down into bite size chunks that are doable. A to do list not only creates order but also gives you a strategy for getting things done.
It gives back our sense of control.
List-making gives us back our sense of control. I love crossing items off a list. It makes me feel like I have accomplished something and gives me added satisfaction. I also don't have to wonder if I have completed a task. If it is crossed off, it is out of my mind.
It Relieves Stress
As you see work getting done and that you are moving forward efficiently, it allows you to relax more. Work is getting done and so you can take a well-deserved break. Schedule it in if you need to. I am quite good at just taking periodic breaks whether scheduled or not.
It helps you get organised if you're disorganised like the way i was.
I see so many people chasing their tails, putting out fires, they’re just not organized. I think it’s because they just don’t have a clear idea of what it is they’re trying to achieve that day. A To Do list makes it very clear as to what you’ve got to get done that day, and helps you then work through that list, and makes sure you’re getting the things that matter done. It keeps you organized. It’s a key element of being successful, being organized. So you’re not burning time working out, ‘What am I going to do next?’ and you’re not distracted by things that aren’t on your To Do list. If you’ve got a To Do list, stick to the To Do list. Get those things done first. It’s going to make you extremely organized which means you’re going to get the job done.
You guys i gotta go, something has just happened.
But before i go, let me first conclude,
Now As you can see,you shouldn’t forget to make a to-do list tomorrow when you wake up, because even creating one helps to organize your thoughts and sets you up for success every day to meet your goals. Whether you manage to complete the whole list every day or not, just the habit and act of writing a list gives you the power to boost efficiency, time management, productivity and problem-solving skills.
I hope this post was helpful,
