RIDING THE CRYPTO WAVES ON STEEMIT - A LESSON TO LEARN

in #motivation6 years ago (edited)

This seems to be a simple concept, but apparently a lot of people have missed it.

As one year wraps up and we begin the next, I've been taking time to reflect. This is important in many ways, and perhaps I'll share more about that later. For the time being, I just desire to share a simple concept, which, although we may be aware of hearing it, we may have missed a level of how to apply this.

RIDING THE WAVES VLOG

BUY LOW - SELL HIGH

I want you to understand this concept on a higher, or perhaps deeper level. If any of us were looking for a "good investment," ideally we would want to purchase that investment at a low price, or at least a low enough price that we thought it had much room for growth. Then, once the investment increases to a satisfactory level and becomes worth more, we would want to sell high. When it comes to things like resale, crypto, or the stock market, we all understand this concept.

Lately, as I reflected on the last year, or even a little longer time period, I keep coming back to a certain time period in which a few different paths were chosen by some. At the end of 2016, the value of STEEM plummeted to an all time low. Interestingly enough, so did the enthusiasm and motivation of many... it just plummeted or even disappeared. In hindsight, that would have been an incredible time to buy. Some, like @vcelier, who I've had the pleasure of meeting in person, chose to "buy low" at that time. Others, like @papa-pepper, chose to continue blogging on steemit at that time. Again, looking back, we can see that people who chose to either buy low or keep posting at that time made a good decision.

Many others had another path that they chose. Many gave up at that time. The decreased value of STEEM at the moment caused them to abandon hope. Others just stopped posting, and waited for the increase in value before they thought it to be a worthy investment of their time. Once the value began to climb back up in early 2016, you should have seen how many users jumped back in.

Since hindsight is 20/20 and since we can learn from past so that we don't repeat the mistakes of the past, we can now understand things more fully. Just like buying low is a good idea, so may "earning" or "gaining" low. I've always looked at steemit as an investment. It's an investment of time and effort for sure, and unlike other social media platforms, there is a real chance to get a return on that investment. @mericanhomestead is the same way. In fact, he looks at all of his STEEM as if they are worth $10 USD each, because he believes that one day they will be. Now last year that may have seemed like a distant hope for sometime way in the future, but we've almost seen that become reality already this year.
As I've been sharing lately, it is much better and easier to earn something (like STEEM) when the value is low. Obviously, it a better time to buy things when they are undervalued too. The real time when people were quitting and leaving was the best possible time for them to be posting. If you were around during that time, you would even recall that my attitude was just that; "This is a great time to be posting on steemit!" So, as we move forward, please remember this. None of us can change what we did a year ago, even if we were here. Honestly, I would have bought thousands of dollars worth of STEEM and then had a nice 60X increase to my investment... but then again, we all would have. At the moment, we can only think about this matter and be ready to apply it in the future. Also, there may be a time in the future when $6 STEEM seems really cheap, so what does that tell you about your potential right now?
If you happen to be looking for other online crypto opportunities, you may want to check SOLA out. Their platform and crypto (SOL) is still rather new and it is just starting to grow. Many steemians have already joined, so you'll recognize some familiar faces as well. In just a few short weeks I've earned over 1000 SOL already. At the moment, that's worth over $100 USD, but who knows what it could be worth in the future. A few minnows form steemit have even claimed that they get a lot more attention and interaction over there. Here is the invite code that they gave me if anyone is interested : https://sola.ai/papa_pepper

Until next time…

Don’t waste your time online, invest it with steemit.com

The mistakes people make is thinking they are rewarded in $ when they post or comment.
The truth is they are rewarded in STEEM and possibly SBDs.
When there are less people posting or commenting, each of your posts or comments are rewarded more, because you have a bigger share of the STEEM inflation.

I have never power down, except to send STEEM to other Steemians.

Having bought at $0.13, I am quite pleased with my account with the price of STEEM over $6.

And the STEEM powers that I got when the price of STEEM was very low are now more than 50 times valuable than when I got them.

I know the rewards are in Steem. But in my head I'm calculating the rewards in $.

I should try to change my mindset, and perceive my rewards as Steem and not in terms of $.

Right, you are only rewarded with a small amount of $ if you sell it for a small amount of $. Also, good point on "more than 50X"... I did my math wrong and added another "0."

STEEM ON my friend!

is this even real people are now buying a currency that we can't even put in our wallet everything is going on the internet What if aliens attack us ..........

great point...those aliens though!!!

hey @papa-pepper, you wrote 2015/16 in your post, I think you meant 2016/17!

I was also able to grow on STEEMIT the past year in a similar way, as I described in my last post, "HOWTO Get Attention on STEEMIT without PISSING PEOPLE OFF! 😱".

The key was to slowly and steadily build a following, never giving up (despite sometimes having strings of nearly 2 dozen ZERO payout posts!), sticking through the "tough times", and just focusing on writing high-quality posts (including commenting on other posts), regardless of the price of SP (yet still powering up). The end result sort of speaks for itself! 😊

Oh that's great decision there. Had I known steemit a little earlier, I could have ridden the low prices as well. Sometimes, it really does payoff to hold on despite the storm, and continue on with the battle.

Persistence can be a key to victory! :)

Well it is a good news for is which are a little steemians, yes me too enjoy to doing powerup during this great price to between 0.50 and 0.17 steem per sbd. Me hope continuing growing up but the market are very unknowledge, we need to be pacient and enjoy our amazing learning here on steemit how the financial markets function, te best part it is free only loose steem or sbd. Ja :)
Best regard @galberto

I am so jealous of your timing. I discovered this platform too late. I started buying and posting when it was around 90 cents. I wish I could go back in time and invest more. I don't plan to sell it any time soon, but it would be nice to have more power and be able to promote cool posts.

Today is my 5th day on steemit. And I am still learning my basics here.So this kind of advise is a immense support for me to understand to take the best decisions at the correct time.Thank you very much.Your support is highly appreciated
-cheers-

Thanks for showing me Sola. I love the concept of the cards and how the whole thing operates. It did drag me away from Steemit for a bit but now I put a little time into each.
All the posting and earning done when Steem was low is like buying low, except you bought it with your time and efforts instead of pulling money from your pocket. Great insite from the great @papa-pepper

Exactly! You're welcome! Thanks @jlsplatts!

Is sola.ai actually a social network running on a blockchain like Steem or is it more like a website with crypto integration?

Buy low, sell high... such a simple concept that most know but oh... so hard to follow when your emotions join the charts on the roller coaster ride. Yes, I agree that many lost motivation for posts when steem dropped in value and suddenly the frequency of posts increased dramatically when steem rocketed recently. Hahaha... How realistic people are ;)

so hard to follow when your emotions join the charts on the roller coaster ride.

Yes it is, we've seen plenty of evidence for that! I noticed the changes in frequency too. Once, when a lot of people stopped posting due to a drastic decrease in post payouts, I tried to "lead by example" and actually posted more, as a way to show that post payouts weren't everything. Little did I know how that would work out in the end...

What a pleasant surprise when steem suddenly decides to take off ;) Although sometimes hard to adhere to but I really think things become a lot more fun when I forget about the rewards and just let nature takes its course. Interesting how people have no qualms interacting on other social media platforms when there is no real reward to speak of, except for engagement, interaction and socializing.

Very good information
Thank you bro

I get excited if my posts earn anything at all. Something is better than nothing! While I haven’t invested any money into steem yet, I’m working on investing time right now.

Me too! I haven't bought any, but I have poured myself into it! Earning something is better than most would even offer us!

You mentioned great information in this post... and I believe lots of readers take it into account and know the right thing about steemit from the wrong thing they thought from the beginning.
keep it up

Why even sell and not HOLD? 😃

I am sure that people have their reasons.

Now, I hold steem
😀

thanks for the information @papa-pepper

You're welcome!

☺😊☺

Interesting and helpful information Thanks @papa-pepper for sharing information.

Much of us don't understand the this little thing.so we fail in being successful..you have simply taught us the fundamentals..it is very helpful.thanks alot :)

You are welcome!

Good friend

Well said on sticking with it, investing is not just money but the time to build the community.

Amen to that!

Cool my friend..

Post @papa-pepper always gives us useful lessons. I wait for the price to fall slightly and I will try to buy it to invest. Thank you very much for the science that papa give. Good luck always for you @papa-pepper.

very good info @papa-pepper, I really like about your post.

Very good post .. Make me spirit with your experience this .. Maybe steem forward will be more advanced again .. Thanks @papa-pepper

Well said.

nice video @papa-pepper thanks for helpfull information

Thank you for checking it out!

Great advice thank you.

You're welcome!

good work is a friend,
keep on sharing i will always follow you @papa-pepper.

You are the second person to recommend SOLA to me. I downloaded the app but still haven’t set up an account. But, if papa-pepper is on the platform, I gotta get on there.

It is different, as is the community over there, but it is another great place to meet people, interact, share hobbies and ideas, and potentially earn crypto online.

gave them my email before realizing they require phone number to verify -.-

6$ for steem is low! Buy steem!

I do think steemit is a place well deserving of our time and content.

I didn’t knew steemit back then but I wish I did. Either way, I am happy I am here now and excited about what 2018 will bring us.

Cheers!

Sola looks fascinating.

I apologize, I was reading your post, then jumped to sola and registered and then came back and finished reading your post. I missed your referral link. :-(

LOL - That's okay. It is an interesting place, and I certainly prefer steemit, but it is another way to earn crypto.

I've been hammering away on Steemit since Aug of 16...I agree with what you say about posting a lot...I average ten to twenty a day...
improvise, adapt and overcome...if people have short attention spans (and they do) give them a lot of SHORT posts (and I do)

buy low/ sell high sounds good...but like posting when no one is listening it's counter intuitive.
when the FEVER runs high...FOMO...or FUD...
reasoning looses out.

Saw this video when you posted it on youtube. It's great advice!

Thanks man! I figured it'd be a good chance to share what you have repeatedly said too!

I'm glad i didn't give up on steemit. I even joined sola but i'm inactive, i gues it's

Think I'll just stay "Long" on Steemit!

I may not have much after posting her over a year and a half ago, but that's okay, because it is more than I would have from using something like FB. It has been fun, and I also think Steem is going to hit $10 sometime soon (maybe about a month, but who knows).

One thing i always tell people when making investment moves is this, try never to get discouraged when the beginning is slow. always see the bright side! 1 dollar, 1 cent to me for a starter is progress! consistency is in the game. even if your moves are not the best and bringing in much rewards, truth be told you will definitely get better at what you do once you persist.
For your post/analysis, its a pity that folks jump in and out of steemit due to price fluctuations, they forget that visibility is also important, you go away and don't get seen or gain followers or some cents/steem, you remain and vice versa is the case. people should learn to develop stick-ability from time to time cause in the long run there are gains to be made. your post sure does encourage people like myself thank you.

Thank you for posting this @papa-pepper! Everyone should watch that video! You are exactly right that people rush into something when the price begins to rise!! That is one thing that has always confused me with the investor mentality. I think Steem is just getting started!

my science is still very little about how to read and buy bitcoin

It also seems to be about patience. The 'get rich' fast and easy way that some seem to think Steemit can provide don't realise that it DOES take time and commitment to grow... as I'm learning myself.
I've had the pleasure of following @vcelier from the start of my Steemit experience... quite randomly as I was drawn to the fact that we share our bilingualism... but I've seen how much work he puts into each of his posts, and it's not negligible.

amazing,, I am motivated with your posts, I am a newcomer in steemit. I am sure you are a professional person in posting in steemit. I learned a lot from your post setup. may I succeed like you ..

do i for your post resteem?

Thank you for sharing this info to newbies, I will remind myself not to repeat the history by abandoning Steemit when the price go down. Who knows it might worth a lot more in the future right. You make a right decision, thumbs up!

Wow thank you very much with this article you have clarified many of my doubts, continue with contributions as well as this

Before I spend xx hours trying to figure out how to use Sola, can you tell me if it's straightforward with cross-posting on Steemit and Sola? I honestly don't think I have enough time to create unique content on both, so I'd effectively want to copy my content from Steemit onto Sola... Just like you would cross-post content on Steemit, Facebook, Instagram, etc., I would theoretically cross-post on Sola and here..

Is that what you're doing?

Do they use markdown coding too? HTML? or something different for formatting posts?

TIA!

I post similar content on both, and the format is much different. You are only allowed one image and so many words per "card" or page, so some people find it easier to fit into their day. HTML doesn't seem to work as well. For instance, if you use the * to turn your font italicized, it does show up in italics, but you can still see the *.

Hmm, very interesting. So it's a "Twitter" version of Steemit? :)

Thanks for your insights! I may join .. I am disappointed when products force you to install a proprietary app in order to use their tool though. Steemit makes life much easier with the full-access granted via steemit.com (and other) website(s).

When I look at my account, it feels like there is not much there but after reading this post and listening to the video even though my wallet is not much I was able to get what I have by getting on Steemit in May of last year, thanks to @mericanhomestead . I didn't come here for the $ but for the community but it was nice to see what I did have increase in overall value fairly quickly! Thanks @papa-pepper for what you are doing!

You the man, I remember doing several posts when steem was at .90 for a while, the best time generate Steem was now but like you said many stopped, now they are trying to catch up. 🤑

The best time to buy is when there's panic stick with the great projects like STEEM!

Fantastic advice! I also think that it is easy for people to get carried away when investing as well and not sell even when they have magnificent profits. I think it is important to always evaluate what you think something is currently worth vs what its market cap is. It is also a good idea to enter an investment after you determine where you would want to take profits! Thanks for sharing this great advice, and im glad all the time you put into the platfom when it was so inexpensive is really paying off now! :) have a great day!

Yup, when it's raining and cold and miserable, just put your head down and keep slogging on. Eventually the rain will stop and the sun will come out and you will be so much further along the road than those who decided to sit at the side of the track in the mud and complain about being cold and wet.

Keep steeming forward and good things will come, in their own time ;-)

Very, very well said!

As always, good post. And thanks a lot for the advise, I'll keep it in mind, cause' I wanna built a future here, and I know that wil be thanks to people like you, man
Keep being great!
