Be Intentional With Your Circle

in #motivation4 days ago

You are a true reflection of the part of the circle that you are in. As a matter of fact, you cannot grow well and make progress in a circle that keeps you small. If you stay in the midst of the people who celebrate mediocrity, you will begin to think like them and it will affect you negatively. But if you stay in the midst of people who are geared towards greatness, you will also achieve greatness. You need to know that a major part of what happens to you - including the good and the bad, can be traceable to the people who have formed part of you. This is part of the reasons you need to be intentional about your circle.

In life, if you want to succeed and to sustain the success, then you have to understand that you cannot do it alone. The people around you - family, friends, mentors, associates, all have a part to play and can influence where you are going to and how fast you will get there. Your circle can either push you forward in life or prevent you from going forward. There are people who have made it really big in life simply because they were part of big dreamers. In the same way, some others have also not unleashed their potentials because they find themselves in the company of those limiting their advancements.

If you are part of a football team that has won a major tournament's trophy, even if you did not score any goal throughout the tournament, you will still get your recognition and your medal. This is because you are part of the winners. On the other hand, if you are part of the team that did not win, even if you scored more goals than everyone else in the competition but somehow, your team did not win, you will not lift the trophy. This goes to prove that where you belong has so much influence on not just who you are but what you will become. If you want to succeed, then you should not be found in the midst of the people thinking failure, so that they will not becloud your sense of reasoning with their negativities.

Why it is necessary to be in the company of people who think and act greatness is that their pace will motivate you to also be on your feet and act. Their lifestyle becomes contagious, and their personality will also rub off on you. You cannot be near an open flame and not pick up the smell of smoke. In the same way, you cannot be within successful people and not replicate the same level of success. Trust me, when you do what someone has done in the same way or maybe a near similar manner, you will also experience similar result with them. If you want to replicate the glory you see in people, just follow their story and replicate what they did, and the result will speak for itself.

I remember when I was in senior secondary school, I made friends with students who were studious. We normally organised classes within ourselves during weekends and on holidays. Then there was another group who used to feel less concerned about their studies, they would go to play video games after classes and were unserious. By being in the midst of the studious ones, it motivated me to read hard and to take my studies seriously. When we wrote our O’Level exams, all of us in that group passed at one sitting. On the other hand, a major part of the students in the other group did not do too well. If you want to succeed, then you should be intentional about who you allow around you.

Anyone that is not directly or indirectly adding positively to you and your growth is not supposed to be in your close circle. When choosing your circle, it should not be based on pity and you should not be sentimental about it, rather you need to be intentional and prioritise your personal growth. You need to company with like-minded people and both of you will grow. Remember that a wood does not sharpen an iron, rather it takes the rubbing together of an iron to sharpen another iron.
