Build Your Own Door, Create Your Own Path

in #motivation18 hours ago

I normally hear people say that when opportunities come knocking, that they should open the door. They believe that opportunity is a visitor that comes to knock. But what happens when you are standing in a hallway without any form of door? That is, what if you have been waiting for a very long time and nothing comes to knock? This is why you do not have to live your life solely depending on when opportunities will come knocking at the door. Build your own door, and create your own path. You have to understand that you actually have the power to create what you have been waiting for. Do not just wait for things to work for you, you have to put in actions to make things to work. You can create opportunities for yourself.

You will be surprised how a lot of people have been waiting for a lucky break. They wait for a right job to find them, they wait for the right person to discover their talent, they just wait for some random luck to hit them and change their life. But what they do not understand is that waiting may be a passive trap. By continuing to wait, you are giving away your power. Imagine someone depending on luck for everything about their life instead of taking their own actions. If you want to change your life, you do not have to keep waiting for when opportunities will come to knock at your day, rather you have to build your own door.

There is this friend of mine who studied Food and Nutrition in school, and even went ahead to learn a couple of local and continental dishes. When he was done, he started applying to big restaurants and hotels for work, but it was not forthcoming. For about 6 months, he kept applying, yet nothing to show for it. At a point, he had to talk to himself that instead of waiting for job opportunities, he can create one for himself. What he knows is how to cook, so he decided to put it to good use. In the estate where he lived at that time, he discovered that a lot of people there are working class and they do not normally cook. Some of them even eat outside, or buy food from eateries.

What he did was to start cooking and delivering to them. He would get orders from them, especially pots of soup and stew, prepare the food and then deliver to them so they will put in their fridge and eat for a few days. It was not long, and the orders became so much that he even had to employ other people to help him. That was how he started. At the moment, he owns a big restaurant where he sells food and still does home delivery. He has a lot of workers who help him run the business. If he had been waiting for opportunities to come knocking at his door, he may have kept waiting in vain. But he took steps to build his own door.

Building your own door means creating your own chances. This starts with having a change in mindset. Instead of asking yourself why anyone has not given you a chance, ask yourself what you can do to make yourself known. Instead of asking why no one has hired you yet, ask yourself what you can do or create on your own. This makes you to shift your mindset from seeing your life from a spectator point of view to the main character. You have to understand that you matter to your own destiny, so do not just wait for things to just happen on their own.

To be able to build your own door and create your own path, you need to develop a lot of things. Firstly, you need more knowledge. The more you know, the more you will be able to create opportunities. You are as limited as what you know. As a matter of fact, there are some possibilities that you may not even know exists until you have gained an extra knowledge. Not just acquiring knowledge, learn new skills and update on your existing ones. Practice a skill daily, even the ones that are not paying yet. This is because you might not know when you may need it.

It is worthy to note that building your own doors and creating your path require time and effort, it will not happen overnight. There may even be days when you may feel like you are progressing in futility, because you may not see the immediate result, but it should not stop you from still taking steps. You may even make mistakes at some points, but they are still part of the learning processes. At the end, all these will be part of what will help you to build the kind of opportunities you need.
