Dreams Come True, But You Must Work

in #motivation2 days ago

Every human has dreams. To some, it may be to achieve academic success, some might be to excel in their place of work, others may be to attain a certain lifestyle. However, one very established truth is that dreams, even though they come true, will not just happen because you dreamt them. For your dreams to come true, certain responsibilities will be placed on your and you must work it out. Vision may give you the spark and the motivation you need, but it is your determination to work, and your discipline that will deliver your dreams to you. Remember that results are produced by actions, not by mere wishes.

As a farmer for example, there is no amount of dream you have that will give you a bountiful harvest if you have not planted any seed. The seeds will not germinate from the bottle kept inside your store. If you must reap the harvest, then you must plant seeds. In fact, you may have a potentially full plantation right inside a bottle stored as seeds. But until you plant them, the plantation will just remain as dream. In the same way in life, you may have some brilliant ideas of what to achieve, or some goals, but all these will not be delivered without the required work to be done. Life and nature will not reward your dreams, but they will reward the efforts you have put in and the results that you have obtained.

A dream that is not powered by action is like a car without an engine. No matter how beautiful the car may look like, it will still not be able to move because it does not have an engine. You have to show daily commitment to your dream, and be disciplined to keep at it and give it your best. The result may be slow or you may not even see it immediately, but it does not mean that you should stop putting in actions. Remember that not everything can be achieved overnight, others can be achieved over time. You have to also understand that greatness is not a function of the size of your dream, it is not also a function of talent, but it has a lot to do with actions, discipline, commitment, dedication, and patience. Talent may open the door for you, but you need discipline to sustain yourself there.

One of the scientists of the ancient that I admire a lot is Thomas Edison. In one of his quotes that I read sometimes ago, he said "genius is just 1 percent of inspiration, but it is 99 percent of perspiration." During his time, he was a very renowned scientist and he had a dream to create a safe and long-lasting source of light. This idea was what led to the invention of the light bulb. However, the dream did not just come true, he had to work it out. History has it that he tried and failed for upwards of 1000 times until he finally achieved it. Trust me, a lot of people would have given up if they had failed just a fraction of that time, but he kept his dreams alive with his continuous attempts. He resolved within himself that he will not quit until he achieves his dream. Finally, his efforts paid off and the light bulb was invented, which revolutionised the world.

Another very inspiring example of how putting in work will make dreams come true, is the story of Nelson Mandela. He was born in South Africa during the time when apartheid was the order of the day. But he had a dream of a South Africa where every citizen will be free irrespective of their skin colour and their background. He started an activism geared towards his dream. In the process, he was imprisoned and he spent over 2 decade incarcerated. Yet all these did not dampen his spirit. He kept the fighting spirit and kept putting in the required efforts towards his dreams. His release from prison set the stage for his dream coming true. He later became the first black man to be the president of South Africa.

Your dream, whatever it may be, will require actions. It may not be like Thomas Edison or Nelson Mandela, but in your own way, you must put efforts and work it out. No dream is too big to be achieved. However, you need to start from where you are, and put in the action step by step. The little steps you take towards your goal will be what will ultimately lead you to the actualization of your dream.

You also need to learn patience and give time a chance to do its thing. Learn to follow the due process and avoid unnecessary shortcuts that can ruin your efforts. Also try to improve on yourself and develop yourself. The more you build capacity, the better it will be to take better steps, make better decisions, and make better choices.
