One of the hardest but very important choices you will ever make is to exit the wrong room. A lot of people are taught never to give up and never to quit. You will see them trying, keep pushing, and forcing things to work. But what they fail to realise is that there is a very big difference between perseverance and staying in the place that they do not belong to. There are times that the most courageous decision that you would make is to stand up and walk out of a place. No matter how long you stay in the wrong place, it may not turn out right for you. The best thing to do is to walk out.

You have to know when to exit the wrong room. By "wrong room," it does not necessarily mean a bad place. It can be a long-term relationship, it can be your current job, it can be a business, it can even be your friends. The room might even look beautiful from the outside, and a lot of people might be wishing to get in. But if it does not align with who you are, the values you support, what you are, and where you are going to, then it is the wrong room for you. What you have to understand is that if you constantly need to change who you are in order to fit in, then you are already in a wrong room. Or if you have to hide your voice, hide your talents, or lower your standards so as to fit in, or so as to make others feel comfortable, then you are in a wrong room, and you need to exit.
You may say that exiting the wrong room carries some cost. Well, just to let you know, staying in the wrong room carries an even greater cost. It can drain you from within, and even kill your creativity. Imagine staying where you know you no longer fit in. You may spend your whole time trying to survive while you should be thriving. Can you imagine putting a baby shark in a fish tank. No matter how much you feed it, it will not grow beyond the tank because it is in a wrong location. In the same way, if you stay in a place that is too small for your potentials, your growth will be stunted, and you will not achieve much.
One of the things that make people to stay in the wrong room is comfort. A lot of people will continue to stay in a place because it is familiar even if it does not bring them the kind of happiness that they need. They do not know what outside will bring. So the fear of the unknown, and the fear of uncertainty will keep them where they are. They will think that if they try that they may fail. So they will be scared of trying and failing, and they do not want to look like failures. Sometimes people can think of what they have invested in the room, like time, energy, resources, and efforts, so they do not like the idea of wasting it. But what they do not understand is that staying longer just to prove a point, will only waste more of their life. Now tell me, is it better to save your effort and waste your life? Think about it.

In order to exit the wrong room, you have to first be honest with yourself. You have to look around and ask yourself if where you are is sincerely helping you to grow or if it is just keeping you safe. From asking yourself this question and giving yourself an honest answer, you will know if you are in the wrong room. And it will help you to know if to walk out. It is worthy to note that walking out does mean that you should burn bridges, nor does it mean you should create scenes. You can quietly and gracefully walk out with gratitude for what you have learnt.
When you walk out of the wrong room, you will see what you have been missing all these while. Even though at first, you may have a mixture of fear and relief, which is normal. But when you overcome that, and start focusing on building yourself up, you will be on the pathway to fulfilling your dreams.
