Make Haste, Not Waste

in #motivation5 days ago

Time is one of the greatest and fairest gifts given to humankind. As a matter of fact, unlike some other gifts, time is given in equal proportion to every human. Unlike money, you cannot save time in the bank. Also unlike opportunities, you cannot postpone time to be used later. When a second is passed, it is gone, and may not be gotten back forever. Because no one can run back in time. This is why you have to make haste, and not waste time. Learn to turn time into impact. You have to attach urgency, sense of responsibility, and purpose to time, so as to be able to maximise it.

You will be surprised how some people fail, not because they lack talent, but simply because they fail to act fast. Each time you delay an action that you are supposed to perform, you are indirectly reducing the potential result of the action. You may have a dream, or an idea of what to do, but you should also know that it is also bound by time. By delaying it, you may make it less potent. The right time to take the step towards your dreams or towards an idea is now. If you keep postponing it, the potentials stand the risk of being turned to regret. Success or lack of it can be heavily determined by the usage of time. Sometimes, it might not necessarily be about what you do, but when you do it, and how fast you do it.

It is worthy to note that making haste does not mean rushing into something carelessly. It means that you should act promptly when an action is required. It means that you have to recognised that opportunities may have expiry date attached to them. When a door opens, you have to step in, so that it will not close against you. When an idea comes to you, you should act on it and develop it, so that it will not be rendered obsolete. When you have a chance to develop yourself, you should dive into the opportunity. All these things are bound by time. Those who are quick to take steps usually outperform those who move slowly with a lot of excuses.

Throughout history, and even in this recent era, a lot of people have turned time into impact because they have refused to waste time. They understand that everyday carries its own opportunities, which they should act on and not deferred till another day. They also acted on their dream and on their plan instead of sleeping on it. They also took steps without complaining and without giving excuses. The difference between the people that achieve success and others may not be about who is talented the most or who is skilled the most, but about who acted on their idea and how fast they acted. This is why I always tell people that the speed of action significantly and directly influences the rate of success.

Sometimes, people who waste time do not even know that they waste time. It can be subtle, and almost unnoticed by them. It can come in form of distractions, unnecessary arguments, endless scrolling, and a lot of unproductive habits. Before you know it, minutes will turn into hours, and into the whole day. You will be surprised how some people can spend hours on their phone doing what does not add value to them; the same time that they should have invested into something worthwhile. What you have to understand is that being busy does not automatically mean being productive. It is what you do, how you do it, and when you do it that determines productivity, not just about doing something. Someone can be active and not be impactful. This is why you have to focus on what truly matters at the moment, so you can take advantage of time.

In order to take advantage of time, you have to be intentional. Make your goals as clear as possible. Create your daily priorities. Start now, even if it means that you will start small. For example, if you want to read, you can begin with one page, then you will progress to one chapter. If you want to learn a skill, then start the lesson. When you start on time, you will build the zeal to keep you going. Momentum is mostly built by immediate actions, not by prolonged pondering.
