There is a particular song I am very familiar with and I have known it for years. However, just a few weeks back, I listened to it differently and it made so much meaning to me. In fact, the lyrics became so powerful that it spurred me into actions to get a particular long-abandoned task completed. This was when I realized how powerful music can be when it comes to motivating one towards actions. The truth is that, more than can be realized, music has the ability to align with someone's emotions and then act as a motivating factor or a catalyst towards something productive.

The interpretation you make of music can affect a whole lot of things about you. This is why it can be said that "music can tell a million stories." I remember when we were much younger, we usually travelled to the village during the vacation to spend some time with our grandparents. During the night, we normally came out of the compound, and sat down on mats during what we normally called "tales by moonlight." Grandpa would use songs to tell us some really interesting stories and these stories had moral lessons to help us become better kids. He understood the power of music and he harnessed it to teach us a couple of things about life.
There may be many reasons why people listen to music, but the truth is also that a lot of people find solace in listening to it. I remember when I asked one of my friends what she does when he is confused about the next step to take, she replied that she listens to a slow music to calm herself down, and then she can make a better decision. This goes to prove the therapeutic benefits of music. You may have observed that there are times that if you listen to a particular song during a task, you will not even get tired easily and you can put in the required time and effort into the task to complete it. As funny as it may sound, I realized that each time I want to wash clothes and I put music in the background, it makes the work easier than it would have been if everywhere was so quiet and boring.
I belong to a particular choral group, even though I am still trying to understand the nitty-gritty of the musical world, but from what I have experienced so far, music goes far beyond just a group of sounds. Moods can be altered by music, energy can be triggered, spirits can be uplifted, and motivation can be achieved. I remember there was a time I went to one of our musical rehearsals feeling very down emotionally with a lot of emptiness that could easily lead one to a state of depression, but after rehearsing a couple of songs with other members, I felt so much better and happier. Of course, anything that makes one happier has the power to heal the mind, and music is one of them.

Apart from the therapeutic benefits, music can also be a tool of expression. When you listen to the lyrics of the songs of people, you will know what they are trying to communicate. You can actually relate yourself to others through the tool of music. There was a particular function I went to, and the man in charge of the music was so much immersed in the art of singing. I mean, you could feel his storytelling ability from his music. He literally used his music to tell stories and to praise some dignitaries in the event and they lavished him with so much gifts for it. That is the power of music.
One very crucial part of music that we also need to talk about is the fact that music can evoke memories. There are some songs that you will hear and it will trigger the memories of past experiences or even something you have achieved in the past. This can make you feel better, knowing that if you were able to achieve that in the past, you can achieve even something bigger and better in the moment and in the future. As I conclude, it is worthy for me to mention that the benefits you derive from music is as a result of how you have interpreted it. So do not just listen to music but understand it and use it for your advantage.
