Necessary Life Skills To Know [Part 3/4]

in #motivation2 months ago

You cannot effectively navigate through life without having necessary skills at hand. There are what you need to know so that your journey through life will be worthwhile. The truth is that life does not just happen but it is by your actions that your life is shaped. In our last episode, we saw some skills which can aid in living a worthy life. We considered consistency, optimism, adaptation and a host of others. Here, we shall see some other skills that are of utmost necessity for life.

Here, we shall look at the ability to learn and continue to learn. You cannot know everything that you are required or supposed to know, so there is a need for continuous learning. As the world changes and new things emerge on a daily basis, this also prompts your need to learn daily. The knowledge you had in the past may lose relevance or become insufficient to deal with the present and future challenges. In fact, the point where your knowledge about something ends is the point where your ignorance will definitely begin. As the days go by, you have to make it a point of importance to learn something new. For example; by reading, interacting with people, observing things and nature, etc.

It is worthy to note that learning requires commitment, dedication, and most times, it may come at a cost. Of course to get something of value, you must be ready and willing to pay prices. For instance, there is no way to acquire a skill without learning it and it may come at a price. If you think that you are not ready to pay the price of learning, then you stand the risk of paying a devastating price of ignorance.

The next skill you need to get along with is empathy. That is, try to understand what and how others feels. It is not only yourself that matters in the spheres of life, others matter too. As you feel people, you have to understand that a lot of them are facing or passing through what you do not know about. In life, your humanity is an asset that you need to uphold fervently. And humanity also entails putting yourself in orders too, to also feel what they feel, so as to know how to treat them. You are not the only one that has feelings and emotions, others have too and you need to respect that.

Being selfless in life is what makes life more worthy. That is, recognizing that you have to live in a way that also allows others to live too. Living for others is a very important skill that needs to be mastered. How you relate with others and how you treat them, either humanly or not, will determine how they will treat you in return. If you want people to go extra mile for you, then you have to also have done the same for them or be willing to do so. If you want people to respect the way you feel, then it is demanded that you will respect the feelings and emotions of others too. This is how easy life can be. Remember that it is how you relate with the emotions of others that they will relate with your own too.

The last skill to consider here is the ability to take decisions based on the available facts, not based on mere emotions. This is very important when you occupy a leadership position because it will enable you to pilot the activities of the organisation without attaching emotions to it. This also includes working with someone, not because you like the person but because it will bring gains in the long run. You have to master the art of taking decisions from the brain (based on facts and truths) not from the heart which could be influenced by feelings and emotions.

There are things you may want to do or some decisions or steps you may want to take, but if you consider the potential effects, then you will know if you will still go ahead with it or you are simply acting based on emotions. You have to get to a point in life where you will learn how to differentiate between facts and feelings. That is, differentiating between what you perceive in your mind and what you analyse with your brain.
