Your Preparation Must Meet Right Positioning

in #motivation3 days ago

One of the things that I have understood is that success does not just happen by accident in more cases than none. Rather, it happens when two powerful forces work together; that is the force of preparation and the force of right positioning. Preparation may get you equipped for what lies ahead, but it is your right positioning that will expose you to opportunities. Even if you are competent in something, you will still need some form of visibility. This is why you need to be at the right place and at the right time. Or at least, be visible to where you can be located. For success to happen, you have to mix your preparation and your right positioning. Having one without the other will only leave you incomplete.

I remember what happened some months back that explained the power of right positioning mixed with preparation. A friend asked me to follow him to a seminar because he had secured 2 tickets for the event - one for him and one for me. When we got there, it was not just an ordinary seminar but the gathering of some highly placed innovators in the state. We got into talks with one of them and during the discussions, he casually dropped that he was looking for people to undertake a particular designing contract for him. At that point, my friend and I simply told me that we can do that. We even explained to him similar works that we had already done in the past.

Adorably, he gave us the contract right inside the seminar. We got mobilisation fee, then we got it done in about 3 days and the payment was completed. Even though it was not too big, but we were not expecting it. It was simply as a result of being at the right place at the right time. Now imagine if we did not go for the seminar, or maybe we went and decided to stay on our own without engaging in any interaction, we may have missed the opportunity. A lot of people have missed opportunities, not because they are not capable of handling them, but because they did not see them coming, they were not even aware of the existence of such opportunities. What a lot of people call "luck" is simply a result of preparation meeting right positioning.

Just to let you know, someone can be talented, gifted, or even skilled in a very unique way, but if they are positioned wrongly, they will remain unnoticed. On the other hand, someone may not even be as skilled, but because of right positioning, they can be seen and it will look like luck. Right positioning simply means that you are in a place where your preparation will be put into action. In a football match for example, no matter how talented a goalkeeper is, if he is not on the goalpost when a "shot on target" is taken, he will not catch the ball. This is not because he is not skilled, but because he is not rightly positioned. Trust me, the difference between a celebrated skill and a hidden one is often where the person is positioned.

In order to be rightly positioned, you will, most times, need courage. The courage to be able to move out of familiar environment, and then enter into the environment that will push you beyond your limits. Growth rarely happens from a place of comfort. Sometimes you may be required to go where your potentials will be recognised, and where you will be able to grow. This can include changing location, networking with new people, even going for a volunteer work, or maybe accepting new roles.

It is worthy to note that right positioning is not based on luck but on strategy. It means that you are paying attention to even the little details, and that you are also attentive to timing, seasons, trends, and then align yourself with your purpose. Your preparation may make you ready and prepared, but it is your positioning that actually makes you relevant. That is, you are not just waiting for opportunities to coming knocking at your door, but you will make yourself available to where opportunities can flow naturally towards you.
