Your Process Is Your Proof

I remember during my secondary education many year ago. There was this maths assignment that we were given. Everyone got the final answer correctly, but after it was marked, we discovered that a lot of the students had different scores. Some even scored below average. When the maths teacher was asked, he simply replied that he marked the steps and the process, not just the final answer. In the same way in life, it is your process, your methods, and your workings that will substantiate your result. Imagine trying to get the product without going through the required process. In this era, a lot of people are fascinated about results, they celebrate success, and want greatness. But the truth is that the product does not just appear from anywhere, it follows a process.

Without the process, there is nothing to justify and substantiate the product. Achieving success is great, no doubt, but the principles, sacrifices, discipline, and the methods behind the success also matters. A product may look impressive on the outside, but the process behind it will reveal the truth about the product. I once saw the process of a particular product that was sold in the place where I lived and I got disinterested in the product. Not because the product looked bad, but because the process did not sit well with me. In life, you have to pay attention to the process and not just on the result.

Even in your personal development, you also need to understand that you may not become the best version of yourself until you have embraced the process of growth. For example, if you want to build muscles or maybe get 6 packs, you cannot wish for it. In fact, you cannot achieve it without going through the process of bodybuilding, gyming, and other exercises. The process may not be easy, it may be tasking and demanding, it might also require a lot of sacrifices, but it will be worth it at the end. You cannot skip the process and expect to achieve the required result. It is the habit you cultivate today as an individual that will shape you into who you will become tomorrow. If you want meaningful transformation in your life, then you have to respect the process that will produce it.

Even in your business, career, and the work of your hand, you have to respect the process. For example in your business, it is true that you want profits, but how you make the profits also matters. Imagine generating profit through deception, through exploitation, or through selling poor quality products, it may look like it is going at the initial, but the negative consequences will far outweigh it. But when you build your business on integrity, quality, customer satisfaction, and the right process, it will lead to lasting success. Always remember that immediate profit does not automatically justify the process that is used, but it is what happens in the long run that will justify it.

In leadership and in public service, you also need to know that the process also holds a very big importance. There was a politician, who once held the position of an elected governor in one of the states. He decided to run for the presidency. He was invited to a media interview, and during the session, be said something that got my attention. He said "if you must be called an Excellency, then the process through which you got to the office must be excellent." Which means that it is not just about getting to the leadership position, but you have to get there through the right means. More so, even when you get to any form of leadership position, you have to uphold fairness and equity. You should also try to deliver the results you are expected in a right and justifiable way.

This also finds practical expression even in relationships. A good and quality relationship does not depend solely on its appearance but on how it is nurtured. A relationship may look adorable on the outside, but if it is built on manipulation, disrespect, dishonesty, and one-sidedness, then it will not last. Anything of value that you want to build will require you to go through the right process.
