When a big piece of rock is finally broken by the last strike of the hammer, it does not automatically mean that the first strike was futile. It is the cumulative of the first strike and the subsequent strikes that make the rock to break. In the same way, success is not a one-off thing, it is a result of continuously pressing towards your dreams. You should not overlook the first step and other steps because they are what combine to bring the required success.
There are many big and successful people that start very small but they never despised those baby steps of the days of little beginning. They continued to press on, while putting in their best and they finally achieved their dreams. Even though your starting point may be pretty small, you can make the later points great by continuously putting in considerable efforts in the pursuit of your desired goals and dreams. Remember that success is basically intentional and not accidental. That is, it happens more as a result of continuous efforts and not by chance.
Many people have heard about Facebook and how it started a few years back. It was like a baby step way back in Harvard by Mark Zuckerberg, but now, it has become a global name and one of the most popular social networking media. This is to let you know that success comes through persistent and continuous efforts. The only thing that is needed for you to do now is to take that first step, and then keep building on the first step and you will be getting closer to your dream.
No matter the size of the dream that you have and no matter the brilliance of your idea, what substantiates it is when you have taken the first step. You will agree with me that you cannot arrive at your destination except you have taken the first step towards it. The first step will then be followed by the second and subsequent steps and you will arrive at your destination. The truth is that, it is far better to start small and keep growing than to wait to start big and wait in vain. You do not have to wait to have a full support before you initiate the first step, you need to initiate the step and hope for the support. No wonder this quote has it that:

More often than not, the resources at your disposal is well enough to see you through the first step but you are just waiting to start big. You will be surprised to know that the people you are hoping on to get help from may also require a bigger help than you. So you have to learn to make do with what you have. After all, you are your own greatest help. When you take the first step, you will be surprised how sufficient your own resources are and you will also be surprised how easy other steps will become.
When a body wants to move from a resting position, there is a huge requirement of force to over the inertia and put the body in motion. That is, oftentimes, it requires a bigger force to set an object in motion than the one required to keep it moving. In the same way, the first step towards success is often the hardest step because it is heavily feared. This includes the fear of failure, fear of the unknown, fear of uncertainties, etc. However, if you are able to initiate the first step in the right direction, then you are already on your way to success.
