'They Live ' is movie with very powerful messages. It shows how people are controled by subliminal messages what we can see in our daily lives. For alien part, you decide for yourself.
In the movie Nada (Roddy Piper), discovers a pair of sunglasses capable of showing the world the way it truly is. As he walks the streets of Los Angeles, Nada notices that both the media and the government are comprised of subliminal messages meant to keep the population subdued, and that most of the social elite are aliens wanting world domination. With this shocking discovery, Nada fights to free humanity from the mind-controlling aliens.
Movie was made in 1988 by John Carpenter
Many people are claiming this movie isn't just SF movie, but in fact documentary. Funnily enough, one of those people is Roddy Piper who played main caracter in the movie. Few years before he died (July 31, 2015), he started to say that this movie describes pretty much our reality. Here is his tweet:

YEP! A documentary as is Invasion of the body snatchers, THX 1138, the Thing (by John Carpenter too), The 1960 version of The Time Machine. I've no doubt the Sci Fi world is an oracle of some poor sods future.
