Bridge of Spies: A clandestine negotiation told with a lot of drama and suspense.

The films that are constructed from real facts hardly fail, since they have a dramatic contrast that makes them very entertaining but above all very lived, these are stories that make us connect very quickly with what we see because they represent in a certain way the reality that was lived at some time. I bring all this up because a couple of weeks ago I was watching a film that surprised me because it allowed me to explore closely an event I was never aware of, an event that beyond being real seems to have come out of a spy novel for all the political complements it hides.

Bridge of Spies is a really fascinating film because it gives us the opportunity to explore closely a time of war where the political tension between countries was so high that they had to use intermediaries to carry out possible clandestine negotiations. As I told you everything in this film places us at the center of a political struggle where there is constant evidence of the personal goals that motivate the way some countries handle their foreign policy.

The great thing about this film is that in spite of touching on very complicated subjects, it never gets bored and on the contrary, it gives us a really entertaining dramatic rhythm that is wrapped around a super interesting hostage negotiation.

Bridge of Spies is a film about spies told from the participation of an insurance agent/lawyers as an intermediary in the hostage exchange negotiation between 3 countries, basically in this film we see the capture of 3 groups of hostages that will then be one by one used as an advantage to take profit against other countries, In the first instance we see how the United States captures in its territory a former Russian spy who lived a seemingly calm life while continuing to make intelligence reports, on the other hand we also see how an American pilot is captured after taking advantage of the photographic technology of the American airplanes to take photos of enemy territory and finally an American tourist captured in German territory. Basically the film presents us with a perfect storm that will allow 3 countries in conflict to sit indirectly at a table to negotiate a triple delivery of hostages that beyond benefiting the 3 will not be easy to carry out.

Another element that complements this story of spies and tourists captured in enemy countries is the way in which a lawyer is constantly attacked by society for the simple fact of doing his job and secretly helping the American government to get in touch with members of the Russian and German political leadership to carry out this exchange that beyond being simple seems to be complicated daily by the pretensions of two countries that try to make the most of the situation and all the political and media chaos that has originated.

The plot allows us to see all the political maneuvers that a lawyer has to perform on extremely compromised German territory in order to satisfy the empty requests of a group of people who constantly delay negotiations. To see everything that Tom Hanks' character has to endure and overcome in order to finally get his own way and be able to end this hostage affair is fantastic because not only is he forced to endure the persecutions of military and politicians in German territory but he must also quietly accept the criticism he receives from American media that do not know the real background and the real reasons for his participation.

In general, this is a very entertaining film, a film that manages to recreate fantastically and with a lot of drama and suspense a really fascinating event that remained hidden for many years, an event that meant a lot in terms of the "improvement" of the political relations that these 3 countries were able to establish. No doubt beyond being an entertaining and dramatic story, what really makes this a great film is the way it manages to create tension and suspense from unexpected situations, situations that are unleashed in a secondary way but that become a great complement to a story of different spies, a story where we do not see action but a lot of suspense and some surprises at the time of the final delivery that seems eternal by all that atmosphere that is built around. That final scene was the one that made me appreciate this film for the fantastic way in which the director managed to recreate such an important situation from a gloomy and super tense atmosphere where more than once I felt that everything was going to go wrong.
