Peace Of Mind. Project.
I am a very lucky man; I run a recording studio in the beautiful Scottish rolling hills and glens of Perthshire. I work with all sorts of music, mostly Scottish and a variety of great writers. I went through a period recently when a lot of the songs I was recording were about depression and it struck me that these writers were in essence mentoring others that could identify with the lyrical and musical content. Even though this was mostly an unconscious gesture on their part, I thought it a wonderful thing and started putting the idea for;
“The Peace Of Mind.” Project.
I invited via Facebook for any writers that had written from the perspective of depression to get in touch with me and I would record and produce the tunes to create an album, which would do a number of things.
- Generate some revenue, which is donated to MIND the mental health charity. (I chose a local branch)
- Empower the writer as a mentor instead of a victim.
- Raise awareness about mental health issues.
- Community building through the medium of culture.
I had a great response from writers and soon had 12 sessions booked (no-one was charged btw) and recorded their songs, all of which came out wonderfully.
