Glastonbury Festival 2023 - A week in the world's most dense populated city

Hey Hivers,

It's now been more than a week since our performances at Glastonbury Festival 2023 in the UK. The dust is finally settling and we're able to process what a fabulous time we had in our 2nd trip to Worthy Farm. For those of you who have never been before, Glastonbury is unlike any festival we've ever attended in the past. This year, 250,000 people descended on the farming town of Pilton as the gates of Glastonbury were opened. For that week, it was the most densely populated "city" on planet earth. The magic of the festival does not come from the massive size of the crowds, stages and installations, it comes from the incredible diversity of artists and culture that one can experience there. Thousands upon thousands of performers, ranging from the likes of Elton John and Guns & Roses, to the complete obscure and unknown. There is something for everyone at Glastonbury, you only need keep your ears, eyes and heart open and you will find what inspires you!

It was our 2nd time at Glastonbury, but this year it was different than our first year. We knew a lot of people, and we saw it as a place to network and meet other artists, as much as it was about performances. Hosted by the Croissant Neuf on the Green Fields, we were staying in one of the "oldest" areas of the festival grounds, dating back to the early 90's long before much of the more modern expansions and stages that were built in the last 10-15 years. The Green Fields is the area dedicated to focus on Environmental issues and is completely powered by Solar energy. There are half a dozen stages in different areas of the field, with the Croissant Neuf being the biggest and most prominent. Many of the performers in that area are of a like mind, and this year it was great spending time with them and connecting. We brought Steve Knightly from the legendary folk group Show of Hands out on stage with us to perform "Galway Farmer". You can see from the above video that the energy when we played the bandstand was something spectacular.

We will almost certainly be back at Glastonbury in 2024. If you ever have the chance to go to the festival, you will not regret it! Now to wait an entire year until the next edition...

Part of me wants to go to Glastonbury, but it can be a lottery with the weather and tickets can be hard to get. I've done my share of camping and like a little luxury (like a bed) these days. I may try a smaller festival some time.

Looks like you had a great time anyway. I've seen Show of Hands and they are great.

yea Steve Knightly has become quite a good friend of the group. Really respect his songwriting. There are a lot of great festivals in the UK that are not of the size and scale of glastonbury but have plenty to offer. Especially some of the Folk ones! We are going to Wickham Folk Festival in August, that one is Excellent. Has much more space to breath but still brings in a lot of top notch acts.
