Concert Recommendation Of The Day: Amazing Jazz-Rock Fusion Band Weather Report Live at Montreux (1976)

in #music2 months ago

Hello there dear readers and jazz-rock fusion fans from all around the world, from HIVE and outside of it! For today's concert recommendation of the day, another brand new column on my HIVE blog, I decided to share a great live concert by the amazing jazz-rock fusion band Weather Report from 1976 at Montreux in Switzerland (an acknowledged great jazz centre in Europe and in the world in general for decades).

At that time (i.e. 1976), Weather Report's line-up included bass virtuoso Jaco Pastorius (one of my all time most favourite bass players and a genius on the electric bass who also admired Hendrix a lot, to the point where he would actually cover some of his songs live on stage with Weather Report solely instrumentally). The full line-up of the band during this concert at Montreux in 1976 was as follows:

  1. Joe Zawinul (keyboards);

  2. Wayne Shorter (saxophone; still among us as of 31 July 2021, thank God!);

  3. Jaco Pastorius (bass guitar; my most favourite band member);

  4. Alex Acuña (drums);

  5. Manolo Badrena (percussion and vocals).

That being said, here is the full setlist of the concert with all the songs performed from Weather Report's discography up until 1976:

  1. Elegant People 00:00

  2. Scarlet Woman 07:20

  3. Barbary Coast 15:31

  4. Portrait Of Tracy 25:00

  5. Cannon Ball 30:06

  6. Black Market 36:37

  7. Drum And Percussion Duet 46:58

  8. Piano And Saxophone Duet 53:27

  9. Dr. Honoris Causa And Directions 58:05

  10. Badia 1:05:58

  11. Gibraltar 1:12:07

Therefore, without further needless ado on my behalf, you may enjoy this absolutely great performance by Weather Report, my all time most favourite jazz-rock fusion band:
