Music video I directed for Paradise Lost

in #musicvideo4 years ago

Last week, a video that I created for gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost, went live!

I had a manic couple of weeks - producing/directing/shooting/editing/everything'ing on it, to a very tight deadline, but I was chuffed to see it go live to an excited and receptive Paradise Lost fanbase. The video on YouTube gained over 160,000 views in 48 hours 😯.
Fans had an unusually overall positive reaction to it, in the comments sections, which was a nice surprise.

Here's a rare un-posted photo of me and the actor Clay on set during filming.

I took about 2 photos the whole day I was so focussed on the job.

Clay was amazing. I referenced the film Joker to him for the character tone I was going for, and he absolutely nailed it.

I've worked with the band twice before on two other music videos here and here, and for this video they approached me to make one for their amazing new track Fall From Grace.

The song is absolutely epic. (all their songs are epic tbf)

It needed to be a 'no-band' narrative video and to carry a story over the best part of 6 minutes - not an easy feat.
The entire video and all the details were scripted and the shots were pre-planned. We shot everything over one single day (except for a couple of cutaway shots of birds flying etc)

Thanks to my awesome 2 person crew of the MUA Monika and trusty camera/lighting assistant Ewan.

It was an immense project and one I'm still hugely proud of.

Cheers to more 😉

Well hot damn this is amazing. The video is really intense! Really interesting camera work. And Clay did a really great job, his energy really carried the whole thing.

Wow thanks @carlgnash! I was really pleased with the 360 rotation effect and Clay knew exactly what to do in all circumstances.
I think we are going to make a short film together for fun, once this virus has buggered off.

Yeah that 360° rotation shot at the beginning was incredible! The way it worked with going through the garage door was really trippy. Very creative camera work throughout. That is really cool you guys are talking about making a short film, you should! Good chemistry there. For a longer song like this and no spoken parts, the video absolutely held my attention and told a very clear story. I didn't even mention the song in my first comment, they obviously rock super hard as well. Great project

This comment makes me happy :)
Cheers dude!

Totally awesome. Big fan of Paradise Lost, one of my favorite bands. Your work is great @ashtv 🤘 will follow for future updates.

Hey, thanks for saying so @outlinez! PL fans are everywhere, love it.
I love The Plague Within album, it's immense.

Just out of interest did you see this video upon release?

Yes, I saw the video when it was released on youtube. I'm following Nuclear Blast and also Spotify tick me for a new song. Paradise Lost got on the list with my favorite bands from 1993 with Icon album which had a big impact in my teenage years.

Today I was pleasantly surprised to find you in the hive. Really excited to meet PL video clip creator. Pls send my best regards to them when you see them again 🤘

It says, video unavailable :/

When you run into that usually if you just right click and copy the video URL you can view it in a new tab. Not sure why this happens but I have noticed it occasionally over the last few months on Steem front ends (and now Hive). The URL is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWqNcw-oIbU

Middle mouse button while hovering over the title of the video is my secret sauce. Quickly opens a new tab.

P.S. Thanks for the reblog.

Nice tip!

So tempted to say, "that's what she said," ...but I won't.

I see you point. (ooo errrr)

Hey very glad you found this on my resteem. @ashtv is obviously super talented but he isn't just one of these "make something amazing and drop it off here without interacting" types, he has also been a real member of the community.

I'm following along now. And yes, I've noticed over the years people prefer to follow people, not content. It's good to put yourself out there and engage. Otherwise it just looks like someone is only here to grab a few tokens.

Cheers pal.

It is available, I just think the website can't display it properly yet. I hope they can fix this bug! Not sure who to report it to :(
(hope you found watch eventually though!)

Thanks as ever @c-squared :)

I was in a derelict church last Sunday in your town, a good place for these if you can get in without unwanted attention!

Ace. Any links to where it is in my town? Will there be a post from you that features it?

Will there be a post from you that features it?

Yes, it will be part of my 'Tales'. I didn't expect to get in TBH, it was a surprise success.
