The best way to improve your skills is to learn from the best. Watch tutorials, write down the new things that you learn and don't watch too much without first practicing.
The key is writing down a few tips, then going out and practicing what you learned. Then, when you're sure that you've mastered those aspects, go back to writing down more tips and practicing more.
Soon enough, you'll be much, much better than when you started. :) This also works for many other skills, not just for photography. But photography is particularly easy to improve if you own a good camera, because there are many professional photographers on Youtube who make guides for free.
