Why you shouldn't be afraid

(Taken from a Facebook thread I commented on, where OP was concerned that the news was showing disaster preparedness.)

Just be aware and stay informed. Have an emergency plan and supplies. Any breakdown in the global supply chain from oil moving through the straight of Hormuz to a shipping freeze from Asia suppliers, to a trucker strike in America, can leave shelves empty very quickly. In chile they build their apartments to sway with the Earthquakes because the ground moves like liquid, quite often. I have never experienced it, but in LA they know what tremors feel like. Oil Fracking near Oklahoma City has been linked to a massive increase in daily seismic activity in that area. Most earthquakes and natural disasters go unnoticed but sometimes their location and proximity to cities can create massive casualties and destruction. In 2013 a volcano went off in Argentina and people took pictures of what looked like a giant figure in the ash. Hours later 4 massive earthquakes struck Nepal. That very hour the entire city was crushed and over 8000 died. Footage from climbers on Everest hit with an avalanche appeared on YouTube and the whole world experienced this collective disaster. I wonder if thousands of years ago someone "saw" this in a vision and interpreted it as The End. Perhaps endings are only new beginnings because we are constantly building a better tomorrow, despite the darkness around us which we have pushed back with light. It's not so scary out there anymore, but nuclear weapons certainly are something to be concerned about. I say turn it all off, it's too toxic. If we don't do it while we can, it's only a matter of when not if, a natural disaster causes a nuclear disaster so great that it is an end. Elon Musk for instance believes we need to get off-world and set up a second human colony, and I tend to agree. Earth was hit really hard by a gigantic meteor in Africa and the impact crater can still be seen from space in google earth.

26279;I think we're the only jokeless show on television. I mean really, we have no setups and no punch lines. It's not a joke show. There are funny lines and funny moments but again the comedy is born of the human experience and awkward pauses are a great part of what it is to be human.;Rainn Wilson;funny

26290;'Funny Games' was conceived as a provocation. My other films are different. If people feel my other films are, or respond to them as provocation, then that's quite different. 'Funny Games' is the only one of mine where my intention was to provoke the audience.;Michael Haneke;funny
26291;When I first envisioned 'Funny Games' in the mid-1990s, it was my intention to have an American audience watch the movie. It is a reaction to a certain American cinema, its violence, its naivety, the way American cinema toys with human beings. In many American films, violence is made consumable.;Michael Haneke;funny
