The Angel Falls is the highest waterfall in the world, with a height of 979 m (807 m of uninterrupted fall), generated from the Auyantepuy. It is located in the Canaima National Park, in Bolivar state, Venezuela. A protected natural area, established as a national park on June 12, 1962 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1994, it extends over an area of over 30,000 square kilometers (similar to the land area of Belgium), to the border With Brazil and the territory of the Essequibo (currently in claim). The name that is internationally known, Angel, was suggested by a Venezuelan in honor of the American aviator Jimmie Angel, who in 1937 confirmed more formally the existence and exact location of the crash to fly over his plane and then perching At its peak, giving it worldwide repercussions. In the 21st century, she was one of the 28 finalists in the election of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.!
Angel Falls is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Venezuela, but even today, a trip to the falls is not a simple matter, because the area is isolated by thick jungle, and the tepuis make navigation dangerous Aerial You can reach the region by a plane flight from Caracas or Ciudad Bolivar, to reach a camp in Canaima. Other tourists prefer to reach the falls by more natural means, crossing the jungle by the waterways until reaching the base of the jump.
Angel Falls is also erroneously known as Churún-Merú (when the right thing is Kerepakupai Vena river that gives rise to the jump and branch River Churún), a name that actually corresponds to another waterfall that is in the same Tepuy, about 400 m high.
Santa Elena de Uairen and Ciudad Bolivar Ciudad Guayana there are tour operators who conduct tours by land, water and air (plane or helicopter), to observe the Auyantepuy and numerous waterfalls. The excursions by land and water are made from the Canaima camp and last about 13 hours.
The trips to the Angel Falls take place from June to December, when the rivers are deep enough to support the wooden curiars (canoes) used by Pemón indigenous people. During the dry season (from December to March) there is less water flow than what is seen in some photos. The slippery jump can not be seen on cloudy days, so visitors have no guarantee of being able to see it in its fullness.
