In your collection of household items, there are some that you use almost everyday and others that you may not even know you had until a situation arises where you are glad you had them lying around.
I will be listing some items every Nigerian household should have and situations where they can come in handy.
1. A first aid kit
The importance of having one of this has been stressed but still many people here don't even know how the inside of a first aid kit looks like. The one in the picture below is popular in Nigerian. You can get an empty one and fill it up yourself to save cost too.
2. Assorted Medicines
This is not for self medication. Its good to have multivitamins, pain killers, antibiotics and other non prescription drugs always available. Ever been woken up by a running stomach by 1am?
3. Fire Extinguisher/Fire blanket
Its important to have one especially in the kitchen in case of fires.
4. Machete/Cutlass
Having one can come in handy when you need to kill a snake in your room or defend yourself from intruders. For those that live in remote or swampy areas always keep a sharp one close to you especially at night.
5. Hand tools
Hand tools like screwdrivers, pliers, scotch tapes and hammers can be used to handle various small tasks and fix some damages around the house.
6. Food Stuff/Provisions
You might need to fix yourself a quick meal before rushing of to work or school. Maybe its raining heavily and you cant go to the market. Anything can happen. You just have to be prepared.
7. Rainboot
With the kinds of floods we have been experiencing in some parts of the country, you have to agree with me that a rain boot can come in handy in a situation like this.
8. An extra cellphone with airtime
Always keep an extra cellphone somewhere in case of emergencies. If you use it, remember to recharge it (battery and airtime).
