La rapera Cardi B manifestó el martes su apoyo al senador estadounidense Bernie Sanders, un progresista que aspira a la candidatura presidencia por el Partido Demócrata, y dijo que los votantes “lo defraudaron” en la interna de 2016 contra Hillary Clinton.
“He leído sobre Bernie Sanders y me siento decepcionada por cómo le defraudamos en 2016”, tuiteó la artista, que tiene más de seis millones de seguidores y es muy crítica con Donald Trump.
“Este hombre luchó por la igualdad de derechos y por los derechos HUMANOS durante mucho tiempo”, escribió la artista del Bronx sobre Sanders, senador independiente por el estado de Vermont.
Y añadió que ver a Estados Unidos convertirse en un lugar mejor ha sido el objetivo de Sanders durante mucho tiempo.
“Gracias, @iamcardib!”, le respondió el senador en un tuit. “Nuestra lucha por la justicia está lejos de terminar y no nos rendiremos”.
La superestrella del rap, cuyo nombre real es Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar, ya ofreció su apoyo a Sanders en el pasado y en 2016 animó a sus seguidores a “votar a ‘Daddy Bernie’” en un video, advirtiéndoles que las mujeres inmigrantes serían deportadas si Trump llegaba a la presidencia.
En abril, la cantante de 26 años ganadora de un Grammy dijo a Variety que siempre estaría con Bernie y le mostró su apoyo para las elecciones de 2020.
“Bernie no dice las cosas para ser ‘cool’”, aseguró. “Hay imágenes suyas como activista de hace mucho, mucho, mucho tiempo”.
En 2018 el senador de 77 años agradeció a Cardi B que expresara su admiración por las políticas intervencionistas del New Deal de Franklin Delano Roosevelt en una entrevista con GQ.
A principios de este año, la rapera criticó a Trump por el “shutdown” del gobierno federal debido a una falta de acuerdo por la ley de presupuesto y por permitir que los empleados federales trabajaran sin cobrar.
