I'm not a pencil freak though it was this process that gave me a background to venture into pen drawing. Most big jobs I do get come with the request of this meduim so I don't hesitate to accept them. They are a kind of helping me improve my skills more and more using pencil.

So, here is the final piece of the work I have been working on for almost two weeks. I used charcoal and graphite pencils create this piece on a niddle point paper.

Below are thorough explanation of my processes:

Step 1

Outline sketching: This is the first stage. I skeched out my model using grid lines. This is for accuracy. After sketching, I cross checked the work by comparing my sketched work the reference photo to see if there is any error. The sketched work need to have a little resemblance before you proceed to the next stage.

Step 2

Hair and forehead: After thorough examination, I proceeded to working on her hair. I used charcoal pencil for this.

Thereafter, I worked on her forehead. I worked from left to right, up to down adding tones and values.
I made harmonious light strokes repeatedly and crossed over with another strokes using graphite 2B and 6B. Thereafter, I use a more darker pencil which is 8B to over lay it.

Those dark areas seen on her eyebrows were done using charcoal pencil.

Step 3

Completed Face: At this stage, I repeade the process used in shading the forehead to complete the face. I used charcoal pencil on her eyelashes and eyeballs.

Step 4

Neck and Hand: After completing her face, I moved to her neck and started working on it. I also worked on her chest and hand.

Step 5

Shirt Designing: I took time out to get a nice design on her shirt. Too much and rigorous shapes are here. I applied charcoal and graphite pencil where need be.

Step 6

Shirt Completed: At this stage, I have completed her shirt. I used charcoal for the darkest part. I repeated it over and over again without blending.

Step 7

Background: At this state, I used graphite pencil only. I shaded it, blended with brush and repeated the process again.
