Tribute to Deborah Valentine

Got some really sad news last week and didn't know if I would post about it. I think it was in 2011 when Deborah Valentine asked me to do an Exquisite Corpse collaboration with me. I never collaborated before but couldn't refuse such an offer. She is one of the founders of the Exquisite Corpse group on Deviantart https://www.deviantart.com/theexquisitecorpse.

I was really honored and after our collaborations I did many more and was always excited to do EC collaborations.

Exquisite Corpse

It's a game where an artist starts a half of a drawing or painting. Covers it with paper with only a small tiny strip to see. You send it to the other artist and based on the tiny strip the artist finishes the rest. After completion the paper would be removed to see the final result. You will also receive one so it would always end up with two artworks and both artists will have one.

I copy/pasted the text written by artist Sal Hunter about Deborah Valentine.

"It is with great sadness that I have recently learned that our friend Deborah Valentine has a neurodegenerative condition ultimately leading to dementia, clinically diagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.

Along with Bernard Dumaine and Jean-Paul Miller, Deborah’s drive and enthusiasm was central to the formation of this Exquisite Corpse group on DeviantArt.com www.deviantart.com/theexquisit…. Who could have guessed in 2005 that this group would grow to include so many collaborations by amazing artists from all over the world. The impressive gallery of work produced by this group of friends is stunning and would not have happened in such a creative way without Deborah’s constant input and careful direction. So many deep connections between artists have been forged over the years and new collaborations continue to build on what Deborah started. Her mischievous sense of humour, her talents and surreal vision are clearly evident in all her work. I feel privileged to have been a small part of her life and greatly miss chatting with her and the excitement of seeing her new works. I send her love for all her efforts over the years, admiration for her constant inspiration, and gratitude that she has been a part of my life."

I did show 1 of the two collaborations before but now I included the other one too. Both are done with pencils.

Here are the two results of collaborations done by me and Deborah.

The day everything became clear. (2011)

This one is called "The day everything became clear." which is an a3 sized artwork. I started this one and it is a diagonal collaboration. I did the right bottom part (diagonal) and she finished the left top half. I think it took me months to do my part.

Laundry Day (2013/2014)

This EC was started by Deborah. She did the bottom half and I finished the top half.

Para ser una pintura de colores opacos grises negros y blancos, es muy bonito, a mi me gusto, más si es un tributo, un homenaje.

Thank you!
