Senzenfrenz on Steemit Openmic Songwriters challenge: "Give us more time for writing songs!"

in #openmic6 years ago (edited)

Hey @meno and @luzcypher,

and all contestiants and interested people on the openmic somgwriters challange,

today I want to make a statement on the contest, on the one hand to give a conclusion what it means to me, on the other hand I want to ask for some more time and expanding the deadline for entering songs to the contest and, at last, a break during the holidays (christmas and new years eve) just to take a breath;).

Conclusion

First of all, that is such a great contest! Those themes that @luzcypher comes out with every week are absolutely inspiring and motivating, a great mind opener to begin songwriting. It is thrilling to have the challenge of a new theme every week and it is also a pleasure to have a look on all the other entries and compare them between each other. There is somehow a great feel of humanity and love sharing among all those people.
For all who are not into this: Openmic Songwriting Challenge is a contest here on steemit where you can win a guitar. Therefore you have to write a song every week, for eight weeks alltogether, each week the song has somehow to be relatet to one motto/theme, that is announced by @luzcypher, the host of the contest (you may at least know him from openmic regular contest).

Originally this idea was brought in by @meno and he is also the one that provides the guitar! He seems to be a very smart and nice guy, as far as I can tell by reading his posts and his very motivating comments on my entries.

So at this point I want to thank both of you @luzcypher and @meno for all the impact on my musical life through those contests. It is so motivating to do songs every week, there can't be even a better thing. It brings structure into and enriches my everyday life!

So far I did three songs in three weeks. It makes me proud that I was able to deal with the songwriting, it makes me proud that I was able to perform them, and it is an honor to have them viewed, commented and rewarded by the community. It strengthens my self-confidence and my workflow increased since I take part in the contests, I appreciate it so much.

Asking for more time

Besides the fact that I like the impact on my life, esp. the structural one, I have to abmit, that sometimes it is really a little bit strict and tight and the amount of time for the songwriting can be really struggeling.
The new theme comes up on wednesday evening, so until mondays deadline there are only 5 days for writing, composing, arranging, performing, uploadind etc.

That is not much time.

As we going to face the christmas feast and new years eve, there will be even less time for participating in the contest.

So what I ask for is a break on the contest during christmas and new years eve, and afterwards a real seven day period of writing. I know that you will have to review them songs, but you could still announce the new theme little bit earlier and review the songs in the meantime, while all contestiants can just begin there songwriting.

I love the contest, but it will give me pressure when it comes to holidays.

So perhaps you might consider even a break during the holidays!

Thank you so much for those opportunities you are creating through your contests for us artists. And thank you very much for your understanding!

Kind regards, @Senzenfrenz

Thanks for the kind words @senzenfrenz. I appreciate your music and the energy it takes to participate. I can also understand that the holidays coming up right in the middle of this contest makes it a bit of a challenge.

Also, having only 5-days to write and post a song is quite a challenge in itself.

It's also a challenge to listen to all these songs and coordinate picking winners each week between the judges. If we were to give people 7-days to write and post for the Open Mic Songwriters Challenge then we would not have the time to do this, especially running two contests at the same time. We need to have it 5-days just to hear them all and have time to post about it.

We have a lot of volunteer time from the judges which is so valuable to the success of the contests but asking them to do days of work in one day is too much to ask. I understand if you cannot write and post a song that fast with the holidays coming up.

If you can't do it maybe you can write a song called Because We Can't LOL

In any case, I wish we could accommodate your request but we can barely keep up with all the entries now. Please try to understand and remember, we are just having fun here and building community. That is the main focus as always.

I wish you a wonderful holiday season and much joy for the new year.

Hey @luzcypher, thank you very much for your reply! I understand your point of course. And thanks very much to the judges too, I forgot to mention them in my post. Btw, a break during holiday would mean some days to take a breath for them too:) but as it is, it is really nice and its literally challenging. So tomorrow you will get my new entry;)
Best wishes for you, too!

Such a cool contest! Unfortunately I missed the start of it, but I hope you guys do it again. I love to write and would enjoy the challenge! :)

Thanks for all of your work at building a music community here; I'm only seeing more and more how important that is, and how good of a thing it is you guys are building.

I would also apprechiate a break in the challenge because I will be travelling for a month and even if I can't make it every week I would like to participate as much as possible because I'm really inspired by the weekly topics and it's a great experiment to see what comes out of it.
But you're right, 5 days is maybe too less for everything. Even though I made the experience that even when I posted the song on late Tuesday I was still mentioned in the challenge. So it's not that strict.

Isn't the 5 day deadline part of the challenge?

Of course it is, but I am asking for 2 more days...well just an ask...no claim:) Really tough within five days with christmas and new years eve knocking on the door.

That is the challenging part, isn't it?

I am a music lover. Thanks for posting music related.
