Steemit-Exclusive Release from Electronic Cassette: Insomnia Jamz (one-take demo) - Includes video and reflections.

I'm a definite insomniac. I've been plagued with sleeping issues since I was 18 years old, and they've followed me through college and only seem to get worse as I make my way through adulthood.

Up until a couple of months ago, I spent this time literally fighting the concept that I couldn't sleep...and that made the cycle that much more painful. Those out there who are of similar mind will completely understand what I'm saying.

Then I started channeling that time into creative uses. Although most of what I come up with at those hours would not (most of the time) be what I consider to even being in the caliber of my best work, but it's a good as a time as ever to practice, and I'm trying to use it to that benefit.

I wrote the song, "Sleep" that I released as a demo and music video on Steemit a few months ago on the subject of this very thing. You can listen to and read about it by clicking here.

"Some people identify with 3 AM, the dark and the lonliness comforts them...but not me."

Anyway...

Now, when I can't sleep, I just mess around with beats, samples and video-edit together messes of things like this.

Enjoy Insomnia Jamz, and keep in mind that this bad boy is not really EQed AT ALL, so you'll probably want to turn down those headphones and my apologies for that bass being so uneven in the mix. :)

Just a couple notes:

All sounds are used with full permission or are created by me using only an iPhone 6+, and the clever combination of Launchpad for iOS, Blocs Wave, and Garage Band.

The video is comprised of some shots taken over the winter of Nathaniel Greene Park in Springfield, Missouri that I'd taken with a particular video in mind that I never got around to making, so instead I just made them weird and put them with insomnia jamz, as that's the kind of thing my brain on no sleep thinks is a good idea.

The video was also shot and edited using only an iPhone 6+ stock back camera and edited in iMovie.

The two key figures in this video are the girl and the peace stone in the park. The girl has always fascinated me by the Butterfly house, and she is holding butterflies on her fingers and they are surrounding her...this image has always struck me as interesting, so I spent some time filming her. The other key figure is the Peace stone and the Peace Garden within the park, as well. This little area of the park is tucked back in a far corner...and I really wish the Peace Stones were more publically visible.

Sharing the process...the good, the bad, and the ugly. Creativity and artistry are about practice, and I do a lot of that. Thanks for being on this journey with me, Steemit.

This is cool! Looking forward to more!

Thanks for checking it out...I am a huge fan of doing a lot with a little, and using my limited amounts of technology to their full potential. Always a work in progress...and sorry if the bass was too in your face! I know with the gain set where it was that I was blasting everyone out. I am blaming the insomnia for the total lack of EQ on this demo. I'm glad to have connected with you here!

My pleasure

Solid stuff! I play kind of sort of similar stuff but not ready to share here yet.

I found you while searching for Patreon creators. Trying to get us all familiar with each other so we can make more stuff happen. Started with a self-introduction thread for Patreon users. Come introduce yourself and your stuff and get familiar with everyone :-D I have my writing linked there too.

@whatamidoing Hey! Glad to have made connection with you here. I've found Steemit to be much more consistently lucrative and generally sustainable than Patreon even in a sustainable sense...but that's because I have such a hard time getting over the concept of "asking for money," which is what Patreon literally is...I would love to have some discussions on this subject, as gaining monthly sustainers has not been something I have been very successful in on Patreon, however, Steemit has been very good to me. I joined each around the same time with plans for my Patreon to blow up, and unexpectedly found an amazing community and support over here that seemed much more connected than the Patreon community, so I am excited to speak more with you. :)
