Palnetify - Easily switch to Palnet.io from other steem ui's

in #palnet5 years ago (edited)

Do you want an easy way to view posts on Palnet ?

I was sick of typing palnet.io in the address bar, so today I made this browser extension :

Palnetify Example

It's quick and easy to use, compatible with all of the main browsers and open source.

Install instructions

Unzip it somewhere safe, remember where you saved it.

For Firefox users:

Palnetify is now available at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/palnetify/

For Chrome users:

Palnetify was just approved for the chrome store here - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/palnetify

Install instructions for Brave, Vivaldi, Opera and Edge browsers can be found on github .

Once installed, just click the palnet icon in your toolbar to be redirected to palnet

Questions / Suggestions ?

Feel free to comment below or message me via the palnet discord

Browser extensions are pretty insecure things. I'd recommend instead just creating a bookmark and have the url be the following:

javascript:(function(){location.assign("http://" + ((location.hostname == "www.palnet.io") ? "steemit.com" : "www.palnet.io") + ((location.pathname.split("/")[1].indexOf("@") == -1) ? location.pathname : ("/" + location.pathname.split("/")[1])))})();

That will do the same thing without installing anything.

Agreed, I also made this into a userscript and bookmarklet but I liked having the icon on my toolbar as an extension. Thanks for the code anyx :)

Nifty trick, done. No icon though :(

Browser extensions aren't that bad, if they are coded correctly, and said code is open to be audited to ensure it's not doing something... nasty.

The problem is that there isn't really enough security on the browser side. If an extension is open source, people can audit it...but there can still be hacks that cause malicious updates. Few people, if any, check every update either. If an extension checks one site's code, the browser doesn't even limit it to only that site. It lets it check every site, and then it's up to the extension to limit itself.

So, they are that bad, it's just that there hasn't been a major incident that's made it to the mainstream news, yet, due to the horrible security.

This is true, but it's no different for userscripts either. Those can have more privileges than browser extensions do. Plus, some browsers like Brave seem to have some pretty good sandboxing for extensions, and notifications each time the extension updates and needs more permissions. I'd be willing to trust a browser extension installed in Brave than I would a userscript. Course, I only ever have 5 browser extensions at most, LassPass, Printliminator, SteemKeys, Dissenter (for now), and Stylus. So it's not like I use dozens of them either.

So you mean using SteemConnect is more secure than Keychain extension?

Not necessarily. We might be screwed in different ways if either got hacked. I was talking about the technology behind browser plugins.

Used your script in Brave Browser and it works fantastic! Thank you for this @anyx!

This is nifty. Thanks for creating it!

Another usefull tool. Thanks !

creative and useful, thank you

Fantastic thanks 👍

Awesome, thanks Ausbit!

Wow. This is great. This will be 100% helpful and useful and will reduce the stress and time also.

I just claimed and made my first post yesterday and it was already getting tiresome as you to keep changing tabs!!

This was so quick of you, thanks..
I will test it out later and probably give feedback!

That's definitely a big help! I personally just have my palnet bookmarked for easy access, same with steemit. But anyone would be able to make use of this tool.

Awesome extension, lol all these darn front ends can have you hopping sites like a crazy person. What would be cool is if one day we can see all our rewards overlayed on any front end.

I only have my work laptop currently working, so will save this for my PC. Thanks Aus!

Need more statisticsdl-QLSD.gif

slick, I will admit though I have a VERY bad tendency of just leaving 500 tabs open :/

Hey! Would you like to recount the number of zeroes you put after 5? 😉

Any chance there is something similar to steemauto that shows everyone's staked Palpower and their follow % for curation trail? I know the IW's 100% upvote gives about 3 palcoins when everyone on the trail later votes.

I'm not aware of any tool like that yet, you'd need to script something to look up each users stake with the scot api..

Not my strongssuit unfortunately!

Awesome. I have wanted a similar extension for SteemPeak for a while. Good job on getting it out so quickly.

can be really usefull

The good part also is that if you use the #palnet your posts are uploaded there and you get to monetise and get PAL. All we need is to have more people staking PAL eheheh

I'd be happy to see some tool that can convert Steemit or other frontend links posted in the posts / comments to a respective palnet.io link

Hi, @ausbitbank!

You just got a 0.01% upvote from SteemPlus!
To get higher upvotes, earn more SteemPlus Points (SPP). On your Steemit wallet, check your SPP balance and click on "How to earn SPP?" to find out all the ways to earn.
If you're not using SteemPlus yet, please check our last posts in here to see the many ways in which SteemPlus can improve your Steem experience on Steemit and Busy.

@ausbitbank, Cool development and coding work. And in my opinion little things add so much value. Specially when PALNET became buzzing platform on Steem Blockchain then these kind of Features are addon value. Stay blessed.

So stoked to have discovered Palnet via Exyle and Julia. Hoping to be sitting on 10k PAL by the end of the day. LOVE the mentality behind addressing the whale/ninjamine culture of steemit!!

Congratulations @ausbitbank! You received a personal award!

Happy Birthday! - You are on the Steem blockchain for 3 years!

You can view your badges on your Steem Board and compare to others on the Steem Ranking

Vote for @Steemitboard as a witness to get one more award and increased upvotes!

Dear @ausbitbank

How's your experience with PALnet so far?

I just decided to visit your profile and see if you're still active I don't remember seeing you around lately.

I really hope you didn't give up on Steemit yet. It has been quite a while since your last publication.

Hope you're okey there.
Yours
Piotr

I haven't given up .. I'm a consensus witness, and a co-founder of PAL. Cut out the automated spam, its annoying af

hi @ausbitbank

Cut out the automated spam, its annoying af

I seriously don't know why and how did I annoyed you. I didn't spam neither your wallet or your comment section. I only reached out to you (and several other users I follow) because I didn't see any new publication in a long while. And none of it was "automated spam". Just manually written and genuine comments.

Anyway it seem that it's not the first time you're replying quite rudely so I won't bother you again in the future.

Regards
Piotr

When I wrote that, this is what your recent comments feed looked like. They were seconds apart, and seemed identical.

This is following months of memo spam (that now seems to come from jaunmolina instead) and your wierd hit piece on pal coincidentally right after being denied a role as an ambassador...

I may come across as rude, but I've just seen all these tactics before and I'm jaded and blunt about calling people out.

Dear @ausbitbank

I understand where are you coming from and I'm aware that some of my comments could look "automatic".

However I don't have skills to even create simple bot. Instead I'm having list of over 400 accounts in my notebook which I engaged with in the past; accounts which I value.

And every few days I'm allocating few hours to visit latest post published by those people and visiting them one by one.

Whenever I see that someone didn't post in a long while I do same thing: I copy+paste that one comment you (the one you also received). After all I'm not sure if it would make any difference if same question I would ask in 5 different ways.

It may look spammy, however every month I'm managing to bring back at least 5-10 people who were already giving up on Steemit. That's maybe not amazing result, but I think it's always something.

This is following months of memo spam

We're all learning how to "survive" on this platform and how to build our reach. Memos are definetly great and still the most efficient way of sending notifications to people we interact with.

I've learned my lesson that not everyone likes memos and I already stopped sending them to random people and reduced it to mentioned group of over 400 accounts, which are okey with that form of communication.

If I would know that memos bother you, then I would also ensure to avoid sending them to you.

Yours
Piotr

Dear @ausbitbank

It's me again:

your wierd hit piece on pal coincidentally right after being denied a role as an ambassador...

I wasn't really "applying" for a role of an ambassador. I simply suggested that I can help to build some exposure for PALnet without asking anything in return. My goal was simply to get closer to people behind this project (only because I like what you're all doing and I respect your work). That's all.

Also do you consider any of my post targeting PALnet? I really don't think so. I personally managed to get several friends on board of PALnet and SteemLEO and I will continue doing so.

Yours
Piotr

Hi @ausbitbank,

I just found out about you from one of our @steem-ph members.

I'm interested in reaching out to you and seeing if you'd like to collaborate and synergize with the building of Steem.ph and Steem.com.ph.

It's nice to see that you are still active, even though many Steemians are currently dormant.

P.S. I am also sending this message to @bearone, @romeskie & @donkeypong too 🖐️😀
