Ludwig van Beethoven was a renowned German pianist, conductor and composer. He is one of the best-known figures in classical music together with Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) from the Baroque era and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) from the classical era. He had many difficulties during his life and was a solitary artist who overcame destiny with an extraordinary effort of creative will. His music covers much of the classical era until the beginning of romanticism. His compositions often surprised by their originality and broke with tradition, being considered the foundation on which the music of the nineteenth century developed.

Born in Bonn in 1770, Beethoven manifested his musical talent at a very young age and received piano lessons from his father, making his first public performance at the age of seven, and later from conductor and opera composer Christian Gottlob Neefe. When he was eleven he began working as an organist and composed his first work “9 Variations on a March by Erns Christoph Dressler”. In 1792 he moved to Vienna, where he was instructed by the composer Joseph Haydn and was soon recognized as a virtuous pianist. In 1795 he was hired by Prince Lichnowsky to write Opus 1, which was a complete success. In 1800 Beethoven presented his Symphony No. 1, dedicated to Baron Gottfried van Swieten, friend of Haydn and Mozart.

Both symphonies fall within his first creative period, based on classic models, although he always experimented with new options, and started with his previous arrival to Vienna. In 1804 he released his Symphony No. 3 (Heroic Symphony) dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte and consisting of four movements. Its duration is twice of those interpreted at that time, it was a precursor of romanticism and marks the beginning of his second creative period, with larger orchestras that expand the vocabulary of his music and usually express courage and bravery.
