You can't give your SBI units to other people. 🤓 It will only be used by the #SteemBasicIncome bot to give you recurring upvotes by adding credits to your SBI account over time, and is paid out through voting your latest post when your accumulated balance is slightly above their voting threshold. 😏
By the way, it is very difficult to request a refund of SBI units. 🤯😅

By having at least 1 SBI unit, you already are "applied" for the lifetime recurring upvotes. 🤓 However, with only 1 SBI unit, it will take a lot of time (roughly a few months) for the SBI bot to vote your next post. 😅
You first need to choose another Hive user to be sponsored (which should be owned and operated by another person). 🤓 After that, you need to send a whole amount of HIVE (1, 2, 3, and so on) to @steembasicincome with memo of @ followed by the username of the user (example is @bengy) you want to sponsor. 😏
You can also earn by delegating Hive Power to @steembasicincome, where you get 0.5 temporary SBI units for every 1 Hive Power that you delegate until you withdraw your delegation. 🤓
