Peerplays Blockchain Enhancements and Hard Fork

in #peerplays4 years ago (edited)

The Peerplays blockchain was born of an ever growing need to liberate users to take control of their private data and have the ability to engage with each other without fear of censorship, corruption, centralization, or malice.

We strive for this reality every day, while continuing to offer exceptional user experience, introducing new DApps (Decentralized Applications), and promoting the blockchain and its use cases to the broader world, while also making a great effort to continually enhance the Peerplays blockchain with new features and uses.

The following all-new and game-changing features are being added to Peerplays via a hard fork occurring on Saturday, August 15th at around midnight, along with a number of other bug fixes and general improvements.

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens)
Peerplays is introducing NFTs for the first time! This is very exciting and an important step forward for the blockchain.

Simply put, NFTs are unique, digital assets, often-times collectibles, made popular a few years ago with CryptoKitties on Ethereum. For anyone who remembers that launch, it proved so popular that the entire Etherereum network was drastically slowed down by it.

Peerplays will actually have two types of NFTs to use. The first is ERC721 compliant - that’s the standard used by CryptoKitties and most other Ethereum-based NFTs, but with Peerplays-based improvements.

The second type is non-transferrable, which will always be assigned to a particular Peerplays user. They can represent such items as an educational course certificate, or a level achieved in a game, and will always be unique to that one user.

This second type, for those who’ve been following our news this year, is related to our partnership with educational tech startup Avalon Meta, who’ve acquired tens of thousands of users on their app so far, leveraging the Peerplays blockchain, and they plan to integrate Peerplays NFTs immediately

NFT Marketplace
The introduction of NFTs onto Peerplays naturally requires a marketplace for easy trading of the digital collectibles. Peerplays NFT Marketplace will get its start through Avalon Meta’s educational offering. Once this is live, we will provide more detailed information, as well as links to their service.

The Peerplays NFT Marketplace is an on-chain implementation that utilizes basic bid-offer features for buying and selling NFTs - the ERC721 compliant ones, that is. Think of it like a decentralized ebay but specifically for Peerplays-based NFTs.

Hierarchical Role-based Permissions
Currently on the Peerplays blockchain there are two types of permissions: owner and active. Hierarchical Role-based Permissions, or HRPs, will allow users to create custom persmissions/ authorities, which DApps can take advantage of and will increase the overall security of - and for - the blockchain and its accounts, i.e. the users.

An example of this is that a DApp can use an authority to post on the blockchain, but it will not be permitted to transfer funds.

Peerplays is a community of enthusiasts, developers, and users who are passionate about building a better, safer, and more fun world.

This hard fork is a step forward in reaching this vision. We look forward to seeing the Peerplays community dig into all these updates, and to showing the world what Peerplays is capable of!
