Light without electricity ... Fireflies

Each night is observed that small and incessant reflection of light, recognizing its nature and pursuing evolution itself, demonstrating that it does not need the hand of man to shine. Some will ask who I describe, my compadres at this time I talk about the fireflies.

The fireflies are nocturnal beetle members of the Lampiridae family, they are insects that love the wet, they can be observed more frequently in the jungle (that's why every time you go out on a trip you run into this animal), they know each other also as light worms, because they have a long black appearance, with that difference that has wings and antennae which can cover their entire head. There is a difference between their sexes, since the male reaches a size larger than the female developing its wings in a surprising way, but the females stop developing very quickly. This insect is known worldwide, for its characteristic luminous abdomen.

They inhabit only at night, they are able to shine intermittently, this light helps them in their mating and in defense (demonstrating to predators that they can be poisonous). It has an organ responsible only for generating that light that surprises all human beings; their diet is surprising, since they feed only when they are larvae and eat worms and snails, it is known that some fireflies when they reach the adult stage do not feed at all (others can feed on pollen) ... not surprising, but there does not come everything.

The firefly can be the most efficient light on our planet earth, since 100% of the energy used by the chemical reaction (they have a chemical called luciferin that when combined with oxygen, calcium and adenosine triphosphate form light Only 10% is transformed into light, the rest is heat. Ah, but that does not stop there, they synchronize their light as a kind of dance to attract the attention of the females and show that they are apt to be their partner, their life is two years, their reproduction consists of placing eggs ( sometimes underground) and its incubation time varies from 3 to 4 weeks and when the larvae come out they are simply eyes.

Now I mention something that impresses us ... these insects that make us happy since we are little ones with their intermittent light, are disappearing from our planet earth, all because of damage to their natural habitat ... with this I invite you to when you see them during the night not against them, let them live ... they are also necessary for the planet earth ...

It's all for today my friends, we read in a next installment.
