Your family is your "true" population of your daily world. Just as there is individual consciousness, there is a family consciousness, which is made up of the consciousness of all of your family members. I believe that is what you are referring to.
Widening the perspective there is also a societal consciousness which is made up of the many various individuals and families in that society. You and your family are part of the society and thereby add your individualities to that society. You impact society and in turn, society impacts you. It's all interwoven.
This , IMO, is why we need greater harmony amongst people and amongst nations. We are all in it together.
