Why Would Anyone Need An AR-15?

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Constitutional neophytes ask time and time again why an American would need a SEMI-AUTOMATIC (means you pull the trigger each time you want to fire) AR rifle- which for the record is NOT an 'assault rifle'- assault rifles must have a full auto feature, or multi-round burst option which are illegal for the American public to own.

The SEMI-AUTO AR-15 is without question the modern day equivalent of the musket of 1776. Actually We The People have taken a step down in relative firepower to the 'King' whose men now have superior rifles with automatic capabilities- not to mention the rest of the King's arsenal.

Those who would deny their fellow citizens the right to own the modern day musket are no better than boot licking loyalists that King GeorgeIII enjoyed and you deserve no better than to live life under the boot of the tyranny you promote.. Not only do you fail me in your DUTY as a fellow citizen (virtually all men owned muskets in 1776), but you fail yourselves and future generations. The brave men that risked their lives and fortunes to give us this gift of TRUE freedom, that no people in human history had ever enjoyed before, are surely rolling over in their graves at your foolish apathy. Your subserviency and dereliction of duty may one day soon cost us the Republic itself.

I can easily accept the reality that not every one of my fellow citizens is a true patriot but I will not accept in any way shape or form their attempts to dislodge true patriots' means of keeping tyranny from emerging or dislodging it when it does. Remember absolute power corrupts- ABSOLUTELY. The 2A prevents absolute power.

Well put. Living in California theirs still many of us fighting the bs laws that California comes up with to take our guns. It's an up hill battle, but but we keep fighting to make Cali a free state. And stop the bs from spreading to other states.

I live in Virginia and feel for folks that live in gun grabbing fascist states like Cali- I can't imagine living there and am grateful that as a Virginian our state legislature does a pretty good job of protecting our 2A rights even when we have Clintonian fascists like McAullife in the Governors mansion. We also of course our home to the NRA's HQ and have a strong grassroots org called the VCDL that does an OUTSTANDING job of mobilizing 2A supporters as well as keeping our legislators very well informed with a very vocal voice from Virginians regarding our gun rights.

That's sounds amazing. I wish more focks in California would get involved and stop voting in so many gun grabbers. We do have a couple legislators like Melissa Menendez that is pro A2.

the whole point to the 2nd amendment was so that the gvt never gets more powerful than the people. We're obviously beyond that but the fact that there are more guns in America than people definitely prevents greater tyranny here than already exists.

A disarmed population Is a controlled population. We all need to take up arms and fight for our freedom.

Emotional reaction to guns, for those people that have a positive and negative reaction to guns the AR-15 garnered more attention than any gun in history. And it all has to do with how it looks, my daughter(10) has a MP22 smith and wesson that looks exactly like an AR 15, and we have the standare semi auto 22s when we go to the range and she is shooting a standard 22 semi(same caliber same cycle rate) people kinda look and comment on how impressive she is with her weapon, but when she pulls out her MP you can see the worried and questioning looks that people give, and even worse is when she grabs on of the AR 15 and starts nailing it. funny how much perception plays a part in decision making.

While I agree with most of what you said,

" assault rifles ........ are illegal for the American public to own."

So wrong. The NFA restricted fully automatic firearms, it did not prohibit them. John Q Public can still legally own one however the process has has more agencies and paperwork involved (ATF $200 tax stamp).
