'Rank/ Reputation is no guarantee of Character.'
The famous Basketball Coach John Wooden, a man who lived by Principle said it this way....
“Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”
― John Wooden
For example....here at Hive we have reputations based on various factors of importance, however that particular metric is limited. It cannot measure honesty, integrity, or virtue in other words...'Character'. Abundance or lack of these qualities can become apparent through a person's posts/ comments, etc. exhibiting their character or lack of it...here at Hive.
Let's give this Principle/ Timeless Truth a think....shall we.

I always love the colourful pics and art you include with these principal posts!
I was battling back and forth with the concept of rank being attributed with leadership. I would like to think that people cannot rank up into leadership roles without being a leader. That certainly cannot happen without having character right?
Then, I remembered my decades in corporate sales and proved my notion wrong remembering all the senior and management rank people. They certainly performed well enough with the results and were good corporate citizens but character? A number of them did very well but would sooner throw a colleague under the bus or sleep with a receptionist and put money ahead of people.
Perhaps they have strength in character in some areas but blatant, self-serving monetary focus surely can expose character flaws. Or you can succeed and rank up without having a strong character.
So yes, rank and reputation won’t guarantee character. As much as I like money, I would like to think I take the longer route and develop character that justifies the rank.

Wooden hit the nail of the head, character really is far more important that one's reputation. People of high status and reputation turn out to be absolute slimewads all the time, because they are only concerned with their image. If you don't have good character and centered principles you really don't have anything. Least of all control of your life...
On Hive we see the same, so many of high reputation saying do as I say, while quietly doing the exact opposite. In some cases not so quietly... I agree with you completely today, excellent post!

Character is something very different from how people appear on the outside. Nowadays, people have a thousand and one different faces. They put on a different one every moment, and you can't understand them. You can only see that character if it is truly tested.

Your Rep score is actually more complicated than that...it is KE that is based on the combination of rewards and bought/sold Hive...something like that.
Rep Score as I understand it...is a combination of factors...the Rep Score of those who upvote you, perhaps number of votes etc.

Oh yes...Roses...from the late Rosarian David Austin's production. Quite the favourite here as well....'Falstaff' is such a rich and splendid Rose. Some years for production are better than others and this year was one of those years.
